Varsity Football '79 In 79 the Cougs went AAA in football They earned a 3rd place finish in the tough Southwest conference gaining a great deal of respect from their foes Capital was battling without 18 start ers from the previous years championship team yet had only one touchdown losses to Kelso and Fort Vancouver While defeating Shelton Aber deen and Evergreen in Conference play Capital beat Olympia their cross town rivals for come from behind victory Seniors Greg Bailey and Mike Ingle were all con ference selections and were elected co captains by their teammates Jeff Borcherdlng was selected as the Inspirational leader Mike Ingle and Charlie Grate were the leading tacklers in the ball club and Junior Darin Gearhart and sen ior Greg Bailey were the leading ground gamers Coach Swarthout the 3rd straight time, 23-20, in a hard fought, Coach Jack Swarthout takes a familiar walk.
