Arnold Class Motto: Out of the Harbor into the Deep Class Song: OJ Capeville School Class Poem: Let Us Admit It CLASS HISTORY Again we as seniors of Capeville Elementary School wish to leave a memory of our past with our fellow classmates. We have spent six helpful and happy short years here. We spent the first year in the small schools before consolidation. Into these short years we have crowded many many experiences. We are now leaving our dear Elementary School days to go to the high school to continue our education, hoping to become successful citizens of America. In the fall of 1946,we entered Capeville Elementary School as second grade pupils. We came from Little Salisbury, Cheriton, Fairview, Dalbys, Capeville, and Townsend. During that year our teachers were, Mrs. Helm and Mrs. Stevens. A short time after school opened we were happy to welcome Mrs. Emma Joynes and her pupils from Little Salisbury School. The following year we again changed teachers. We found ourselves in rooms eight and eleven. We most cordially welcomed a new faculty member Mr. G. T. Allen, whom we have learned to love and depend on in many ways. During the next two years we passed on to the next grades, we changed teachers, we joined clubs, we grew bold and more sure of ourselves, and last but not least we welcomed the return of Mr. G. T. Allen, who had transferred to the Hare Valley School. We also welcomed to our fold, Mrs. Bragg, Miss Hanshaw, Miss Coston, and Miss Smaw. Then came the year of the sixth grade. We found ourselves again in Sirs. Helm’s room and in Mrs. Fitchett’s room. We considered ourselves as aeing very fortunate to have these two ladies as our teachers, but when we thought of the work that they had planned for us to do, we just sighed, lowever, things moved on and we sailed into the harbor very smoothly. We forked hard to foster all of the school activities. We gave what monetary lupport that we could. We boys played basket ball and soft ball. We girls heered loudly for the boys. We worked unusually hard to promote the May ueen drive. However, we lost to Miss Margaret Kay Helm of the second grade, pupil of Mrs. Annie S. Bibbins. We congratulated Mrs. E. S. Helm for obtaining her B. S. degree in lucation in the summer of 1950. We extended the same congratulations the )ar before to our Principal, Mr. C. E. Arnold, who received the Master of CLASS HISTORY CONTINUED Science degree and to Mrs. Annie S. Bibbins, who received the Bachelor of Science degree. The grand finale has now come. We are full fledged seniors. We think back over the last two years of our Elementary School life and career. We have, no doubt, had hard knocks and bumps, but we have enjoyed each year as we will never enjoy any future years. This being our senior and last year, we have had the most enjoyable year of all. We wanted an Annual and we have one. We worked hard and we are happy, for we did it willingly. Hats off! to Miss Coston and members of the program committee for having patience with us. We, this year, do thank all of the teachers for their kind¬ ness and understanding. Now we must and want to say that we would and could not have attained this great height if it had not been for the wonderful parents, principal, and teachers along our way who have encouraged us and helped us with un¬ tiring strength. Historians: Timothy Stratton Marie Tounsend Mr. G. T. Allen Assistant Principal Athletic Coach Class adviser CLASS PROPHECY It is customary for the class prophet to consult some one who can unveil the future and foretell the destiny of eaoh member of the Senior Class. Thus, I sought a Sorcerer. I begged him for a sight in the future. I fell asleep as usual in my history class and made my first visit in futurity. A vapor arose as I entered the kingdom. I was introduced to Zarina’s sons and daughters. As we walked and talked, the vapor seemed to curl until I made out these words 1952 Graduates, Capeville Consolidated in Year 1977. Imagine my surprise, when I saw a man being crowned as the World’s Light Weight Champion. Coming closer, I found that person to be Clarence Ballard. The scene suddenly changed and I found myself in a small town with a population of 2500 or more. There I read this sign - Thomas Ames Sons, professional Barbers. Eyvind Harris is now a famous doctor. Christine Doggett is head nurse. Martha Williams is receiving her Ph.D. after 15 years of teaohing. Rosa Mack is headmistress of a Migrant School. Yea, Fran ces Thompson has an established Nurses Agency. The following girls are among her staff; Mary Custis, Irene Brisco, Barbara Spruiel, Mary E. Weeks, Gardenia Morris, Mattie Dixon and Gertrude Marshall. Linwood Waters Married soon after finishing College and began his work as head coach at Northampton High. It is the talk of the Medical World now that Drs. Timothy Stratton and and Theodore Harris have discovered a new drug that absolutely cures gout in nine days. Floating around in space as undecided about life as they were in dear old Capeville, I found William Church, Alvin Wilson, Laurence Johnson, Alvin Robinson, and Frank Spady. Then the vapor began to vanish and I thought I could hear the beating of a drum. I realized suddenly that it was not a drum at all, but my hand and Mr. Allen was tapping it vigorously with his pencil and protesting against any one going to sleep in his class. Of course I was embarrassed at my going to sleep. Then I decided that I must write this down, what had CLASS PROPHECY CONTINUED Just been revealed to me. With this, classmates, I beg to leave each of you to your fate and may that be kind to you. The Prophet Margaretta Bailey. The entire day of January 24, 1952,was spent in taking the pictures for Annual. Then the staff really began the job of getting the Golden Memories to Press We appropriated the money by various ways in order to finance our year book. The business places and friends bought complimentary space in the advertising section of the Annual. Also the proceeds from socials, plays, a benefit movie, and one-third of the funds received from the May Queen drive went into the publication fund. A Last fall, under the guidance of the 6th and 7th grade teachers, the girls’ club, known as the Young Girls Christian Association of Capeville School, was organized. Although this club has not made an initial public appearance, we are proud of them and of the quality of young womanhood they exemplify. The Y. G. C. A. has gone fairly well. It eosponsored a talent show and cake walk. A fourth of the proceeds was given to the March of Dimes. They also held a panel discussion in the school auditorium entitled, Personal Grooming . The panel was very inspirational and beneficial. The girls participating were, Lydia Spady, Margaret Trower, and Carolyn Giddens. The Y. G. C. A. is now anticipating a spring rally. The proceeds of which will be used to purchase club buttons. The Y. G. C. A. feels that the best way to understand good, wholesome, sisterly association is to let it speak for itself. The club has sugar and spice and everything nice. There isn’t a dull moment. Next year when school opens and the Y. G. C. A. reassembles, it will miss many of its former members. Those who will have gone to the high school, we wish for them a rosy future and a brilliant career. CLUB MOTTO: Onward Ever, Backward Never.
