We do this by ■Seaming our subject matter well and «.■|ki , t becoming more aware of and cop- ' m i ing with the complexities of modern Wr £ life. Hopefully, we will see how much , there is to learn in life and have the iililE ' wKt motivation also to learn it. ' UPP In many ways, school is a micro- ' ' J , cosm of the working world. We usu- H ally have our day begin at 8:00, I break for our lunch at noon, and end our day around 4:00. We interact yt Vkypii|ji with teachers and fellow students. We work, not for rewards in the form ¥ . .1 j of wages, but in better grades which show our degree of achievement. . We end our day by participating Hi in some social or athletic activity not g r flf a P ar1: of our school routine but V something which interests us. Hh V Miar As college students, we have per- sonal responsibilties to be fair to pppi A ROO! ourselves since our schedules are less structured than high school. Don’t let yourself down. Jamie! 18 Student Life What chemical am I supposed to use? TRADE PROGRAMS The students of the trade pro- grams thank the faculty and staff for providing them with a firm founda- tion for the future. Often in today’s job market, ap- plicants for the available jobs are caught in a “Catch 22” — they can ' t get the job because they lack experience and yet they can’t get experience without getting the job. These programs give them an added advantage above the rest of the job seekers. They now have a chance to use the various tools, equipment and in- struments of their trade in demon- strating their ability to do the job applied for. So the knowledge passed on to them has made the year spent here valuable and much worthwhile. This is so interesting! The doors to tomorrow are yet to be opened. New doors are opening in my mind. I shut the door to painful memories and any thought of missed opportunities. I have begun to open doors of inspiration — invit- ing new beginnings and revealing new joys. New doors are opening in my heart. I respond to the people in my life with enthusiasm. I no longer feel I am insulated, for the love I know in my heart opens new doors leading me to avenues of sharing and companionship. New doors have opened in my eyes. I now see my life as an adven- ture — filled with interesting activi- ties and intriguing possibilities. We can look at each day as a new one. Let us open new doors and leave the old ones behind. Ike Brown — President of Alumni Assoc. ’I F FRESHMEN At least we will pass this class. Being a freshman. For many, the days will not soon be forgotten. As the years pass and they look back to their memories of days spent at Cape Fear Tech, hopefully they may remember and smile. As freshmen, this was a year of decision making. Was their program what they wanted? Would it provide them a foot in the door of the future? In the beginning it was rough. There were new friends, new teach- ers, and a new atmosphere. At times, they were discouraged, bored, confused, and worried about exams. The work load seemed too much to handle. They watch as some friends withdraw or just not make it. Then suddenly, it’s time for final exams. Soon, the freshmen of yesterday will be graduates of tomorrow with new decisions to make. As you move into your final year, may you already have fond memo- ries of yesterday and the hope of more good days ahead. They take special pride in their classes and delight in seeing their students do well. Because of our teachers, we may one day have that job we had hoped for and worked so hard to prepare for. Our future success — although ours to ultimately determine — de- pends a great deal on our faculty and how well we have interacted with them. We salute them for the challenges they sent our way and for their faith in us to accept the challenge and succeed.
