Pat Roderick, SGA President, 1983-84, speaks to her fellow students for the last time. Our 1984 Spring and Summer Graduations were held at Kenan Auditorium at UNC- Wilmington. Each Graduation marks the end of a long hard struggle for some and one or two easy years for others. We all share mixed feelings at Graduation. Few of us breathe a sigh of relief, while others worry of what the future may hold. During this time in our lives, we all appreciate the Staff, Faculty, and our Families, for making our Graduation exercises a special and memorable occasion. noN Ed Higgins, President, Faculty Association at CFTI, gives the welcome address. Shirley King, Jenny Joyner, Rosemary Lew- is, and Ti Kutz served as Ushers for Spring graduation Carl Malpass congratulates the Hon- or Students during Summer gradu- ation STUDENT LIFE 9 10 FACULTY 11 ORIENTATION FALL 1984 For the first time, our Student Government Association was of great service during Freshman Ori- entation. The members gave up their time to help organize and see that things ran smoothly. They were available for answer- ing questions concerning school activities. These activities included, SGA, sports, yearbook, newspaper, and other general questions con- cerning the school. The Orientation publication of the Sea Devil, was the best issue we have ever had. The issue contained a map of the school, where offices and rooms were located, as well as, other vital information. We hope that their efforts helped and encouraged the new students as they began their quest for a higher education. Students who helped at Orientation: Seated (L to R): Tony Villone, Greg Nugent, Vince Hummel, Ti Kutz, Jenny Joyner, Kathy Reed. President M.J. McLeod has been with Cape Fear Technical Institute since its very beginning, when classes were held in an old building at New Hanover High School. Through the move to our present location — from the trials and tribulations of a school with growing pains — to the joys and spiraling hopes of a school whose goals are being met and whose challenges are changing dai- ly, President McLeod has been the leader whose foresight and exper- tise has led us to become a well- known, distinguished institution in the fields of business and tech- nology, not only in the local com- munity, but nationally as well. For the guidance you have given us through these many years, WE THANK YOU! 46 Then Through The Years . . . We Grew . . . And Grew . . . Cape Fear Tech ' s buildings proved to be some of the more fortunate in the area. Our only damage was done to the DAR Park across Water Street from the main building. Winds hit the blades of the windmill knocking them off their pedestal and the park ' s signs were knocked down. A number of small boats found shelter at our docks during the storm. 58 Associate Vice-President Ralph Bordeaux President M.J. McLeod Vice-President Dr. E.T.
