H6 OFS NNQB The ofliclal launchmg of the shnp NALTILLS IS scheduled for June :J 1951 weather provldlng As the work crew puts the Hnlshmg touches on the cllpper shlp each workman recalls that September day when the keel was lald Hue years a 0 A few days before constructlon was to start in the year 1946 the crew was sadly lnformed that lt must begln Its four year project one wear early due to the crowded condltlons m the mould loft fgrammar schoolsl Our work crew conslsted of forty three green horns rncludxn Sally Waters who came all the way from Alaska to jom us Looklng hack on that fateful year we dlstlnctly recall how much our presence dlsturbed the hlgh and mlghtt upper crewrnen Because we were allowed only four years of partlcrpatnon ln most act1v1 tles work was temporarrly delayed Long and lanky Les Jordan partxally lard the skeleton of our chpper shlp when he won the mlle race 1n a Trlple C Track Meet The operetta Marxanne saw the completlon of the skeleton It gave those who were muslcally mclmed a chance to slng thelr sea chantles 1n fact the two leadmg roles for glrls were earned bv apprentlces Ann Lothrop and Nan Buhlert The crew chose Roberta Verrrll and Steve Wlllard to represent them on the desxgners staff fStudent Counclll Some of the gang took a few weeks off to be m the play Carrxe of the Carmval Wlth the beglnnmg of our second year five new recrults asslsted ln laymg the and Max Robmson Constructlon work acam went on IH earnest Dlck Anderson was elected foreman of the newly formed skr club with Lester Jordan as h1s asslstant Drck was also one of our representatn es on the desxrner s board lStudent Councll Ann Lothrop was the other Bob Lelghton was on the Boys Varslty Swlmmm Team that breezed mto first place wrth Falmouth 1n the Tr1ple C Swrmmmg Meet Ixatharme Lang and 'Wan Buhlert earned several I'l1JbOI1S for the Clflg Swrmmlng Team The glrls took the prlze at the Trlple L Swlmmmn Meet thxs year The same year Bob Lelghton Steve Wlllard and Les Jordan supported the Boys Varslty Basketball Team whlle Katle Lang Conme Thornton Mary Stevens and Ann Reeves supported the Glrls Varsity Team Also 1n1919 Les Jordan Bob 'Vlelchlor Bob Lelghton Max Roblnson and Francls 0lNe1ll were on the Track Team Francls won the mxle Jaunt La 8 V 1 .
