On stage, everybody! Curtain's going up! Those were the cries heard opening night as the seniors launched their highly-successful comedy, 'Spring is Here. Mary Bowden, as Rosiland, the young, attractive senior and Hugh Lavallee as Tony, a young man of mystery made up an interesting and romantic team, while Jo-Ann Connelly, playing the part of a pretty, young magazine photographer and John Austin, portraying the part of an absent-minded professor carried off the leads. Others turning in creditable performances were: Nan Buhlert, Ann Lothrop, Dorothy Boyce, Marjorie Mercer, Kathleen Olsen, Connie Thornton, Roberta Verrill, Phil Hasty, and Lester Jordan. Never will we forget the fun we had working on the play and all the many humor- ous backstage incidents. Particularly, the time after the fight scene, when Lester - as he dragged across the floor - accidentally kicked out the light plug and left the stage in total darkness. Our sincere thanks are extended to Mrs. Parker, who so generously gave her time to coach our play, to Mr. Parker who directed the lighting and backstage work, and to the backstage crew without whose help our play could never have been a real hit. As this write-up is going to press, another play is in the ofiingg namely, Inner Willie. Parts are being cast for this play under the direction of Mr. Bruce, a member of our high school faculty. The schools we met were slightly out of our class, as noted by the scores, but this did not dampen the spirits of our bowlers A tournament was held each month with Deering High, Portland High, and South Portland High. An- other year, we hope to encourage schools in our own small-school league to take up bowling. Elizabeth Creenstreet held the record of single string champion with a score of 113 and topped all bowlers with a yearly average of 85. Elizabeth Brown and Jeannie Rogers were close seconds. Somersaults, backflips, handsprings, cartwheels, headstands, leaps, and vaults were all included in their antics. One cheer after another didn't seem to bother this squad a bit. They loved every minute of it, and their eagerness to encourage the players generated high-pitched enthusiasm at every game. Every cheerleader's wish is to be able to cheer in the Exposi- tion Building ata tournament game. This year's squad had two nights of it, and they made a fine showing. Much credit is due Johnny and Peter for their spectacular stunts. This was Peter's first year, but he performed like a veteran. 'I ll ' This year's green team got off to a slow start by losing its first two league games. The Capers then went on the warpath to win the rest of its league games and come through with the Western Division crown for the first time it has been won outright in the Caper's history. Cape won its first game in the tournament and lost its second to the tournament champions, North Yarmouth Academy. The team looks good for next year as it is losing only three men, two from the first five. Captain Les Jordan led his team with 283 points over fifteen games. He was the only Cape player to make the Triple C all-star team. Wayne Brooking, the most improved player on the team, was rewarded with the captaincy for next year.
