2 X Z , 4' i Q MUCH ADO As the members of the Class of 48 near the end of the voyage on the Seas of Educatmon and approach the shores of Llfe they look back and f1nd reflected m the m1rror of t1me the tr1als and Joys the vxctorxes and defeats of four short years September 10 1944 tramees from Pond Cove and Cottage Farms enhsted for a four year term on the Shlp C E H S The fxrst few weeks showed calm seas wh1le the crews were gettmg acquamted It d1dn t take long for Martha to estabhsh herself as a champ 1n gum chewmg After the f1rst few months heavy seas were encountered and the flag was at half mast 1n be reavement of our shlpmate George L1ttlef1eld We were mtroduced to our supermors by a gala occaston at wh1ch we furmshed the enter talnment Clalre fCleopatraj Irxsh dazzled the off1c1als wtth her radtant beauty Lorna ex ercxsed her vocal chords and came forth w1th a l1tt1e tune whxle Henry and Vaughn added color to the f6StlV1tl9S by dressxng as Hula girls Woo' Woo' Glenny Jordan pres1ded over the cere monies It was then he made the speech of speeches He forgot what he was go1ng to say There were a few fore1gners who Jomed our crew soon after th1s One of them was a l1tt1e g1rl w1th bangs and a turned up nose Name? Pat Black After the stormy days of m1dyears were over the crew combxned forces to produce a cabaret somethxng defxmtely successful although new As we neared Port Summer we found that our capable and respected Captain Harry Brmk was about to reslgn In September of 1945 we once agam took up the gang plank to the C E H S w1th lxght hearts and mmds stlll full of the happemngs of the summer We had taken as a new Captam Laurence Stuart who proved h1mself to be an able and experxenced seaman Our crew was most das couraged to fmd 1tself U1 the same quarters as on the prev1ous sa11 The Greenhorns were re cewed at a gala party Dance mustc was furmshed by the notorxous C E H S dance band w1th a trumpet solo by Hot l1ps Stevens fNat to youj The bass sectlon was led by that rhythm1c Jazz f1end Hugh Plllsbury Several new sports were added to our curriculum Among them fxeld hockey and golf Dull moments of the voyage were brightened by Arden Boule s unpred1ctable taste 1n male fr1ends The outstandmg adventure of the sa1l was the unexcelled darmg dxsplayed by the Class of 48 Ln securmg a dance orchestra for the Soph Hop After the normal amount of storms and battles we safely reached the second stop on the voyage to Port Summer 2 where a much needed shore leave was granted The followmg September the Shxp C E H S embarked for the second half of her voyage New seamen were added whxle a few had deserted or transferred to another sh1p As d1.f ferent statxons were ass1gned xt was found that the cheerleadmg team had been taken over by the Jumors Conme Barker the blonde bombshell slgned up for the remalnder of the trxp Her pep and fr1endl1ness added color to the tedtous routlne The monotony of the fall term was broken up by The Nxght of January 16th fD1d Marxlyn Patten do 1t'7J presented by the Dramatic Club The long wmter slege was relxeved by the un usual and ongmal Mmstrel Show Much hxdden talent was dxscovered as a result of this For mstance we knew Ken Leonard could Jitterbug but the whole world was astounded when he d1s played his vocal powers zz' -Y fa Yi lr Y- V W C' a ' - 9 Car ,f .I V L , 27 J 4 YV-1 ,-'I u , 4 11 44 A4 Q - - 3741 1- u ' 1 . n , .
