When the flood of summer visitors return to the smog and confusion of their urban existence, they leave in their wake a Cape Cod, peaceful and uniquely beautiful, to be experienced by the students and faculty of Cape Cod Community College with a fullness any tourist is likely to miss. The college location on Cape Cod has been a primary factor in encour- aging well-qualified professors to forfeit the higher salaries offered by many other institutions, and come to teach at Cape Cod Community College. Cape Cod also attracts students of widely varied backgrounds and interests, thus making a career at 4 C ' s educational in more than just an academic sense. The serenity of off-season Cape Cod holds perhaps a greater attraction for our generation, in this age of tumultuous change, with its increased personal and social responsibility, than any that has gone before. Thus, we appreciate the emotion expressed by Henry David Thoreau — whose writings hold new significance for today ' s society — when he wrote, stand- ing on the shore of Cape Cod: A man may stand there and put all America behind him.
