Dugger, and the Assistant Safety Officer was HMC (SW) H. Hetherington, a Preventive Medicine Technician. Two divisional safety representatives are as- signed to the Safety Department each month for training. The Safety Department is responsible for coordinating all aspects of safety management onboard Cape Cod. They ensure that all mishaps are promptly and accurately investigated. They also manage the hazard identification, hazard abatement and occupational safety and health programs. Maintaining a high level of safety awareness throughout the ship is a vital portion of the Safety Department ' s mission.
