DECK DEPARTMENT LCDR G. Radebaugh 1ST LT Deck Department is composed of Boatswain's Mates, Weapons Technicians, Gunner's Mates, Torpedoman's Mates, Electricians, Enginemen, Seamen and Firemen. Men and women that perform jobs during Unreps vital to resupply of the ship while steaming. Condition lll watches were manned 24 hours a day for the entire anchorage. The word is passed Flight Quarters, and Deck Department was on station of 915' helo lifts, receiving passengers, mail, and cargo and transporting the same outbound as well. Man the pusher boats is passed, Deck again mans up to moor ships alongside and pull them back out when ready. The Bos'uns, Gunners, and Snipes work together like a well rehearsed symphony to recieve ships alongside. No matter how Ruff the weather, the boats are manned and the ships are brought alongside. Need an antenna removed?, get Deck to man the crane and use their outside riggers to get the job done. When the ships get thirsty for fuel, call Deck Department, it's time for underway replenishment. Now it's time to go home, call Deck Department to steer the course and moor the ship in San Diego. Boats, Gunners, and Snipes wipe the sweat from your brows for a job well done. First Division personnel, and all of Deck Department, also account for a large portion of our underway watch standers, responsible for such watch stations as port and starboard lookouts, helmsman, boatswain's mate of the watch, messengers and maintaining the status board.
