EXECUTIVE OFFICER Loon Deborah s. eemes, usN A native of Boston, LCDB Gernes graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1971 with a B.S. in Zoology. Following these years of work as a research assistant in the Department of Molecular Biology at Harvard University, she entered the Navy in 1973. 1 Upon completion of OCS at Newport R.l. in 1974, she was commissioned an Ensign U-SNR and served her initial tour of duty as Oceanographic Systems Water Officer at US Naval Facility Bermuda. In 1976 LCDB Gernes was assigned as Evaluation Center Training Coordinator for the Ocean Systems Detachment at Naval Ocean Systems Center, San A Diego. Among the first women to be assigned to sea duty, LCDR Gernes attended SWOS Basic at Coronado and was designated a Surface Warfare Officer in 1980. Her assignment here included duty as Operations Officer and Navigator of. USS Vulcan KAR-53 and Chief Engineer USS Hector KAR-77. She has been assigned as Executive Officer USS Cape Cod QAD-431 since May 1987. ' ' LCDB Gernes holds a Masters degree in Computer Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey California and is a subspecialist in informations systems. Her decorations include the Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement medals. LCDR Gernes is the daughterof Mrs. Eleanor Gernes of Sarasota, Florida. She currently resides in Bonita, California. .

oc GE DIVISION OCXOE Division is responsible for processing all of the ships incoming and outgoing message traffic and routing it to various departments onboard. The ET's of the division take care ofthe radio electronic gear and the ships navigation equipment. The signalmen are responsible for BM3 R- Allmand all visual communication onboard Cape Cod, consisting of RM2 V. Castillo RM2 B. Archie flashing light, flaghoist, and semaphore.
