HISTORY AND MISSION Nalmes for the scenic National Seashore on the southern Massachusetts coastline, USS CAPE COD is the first United States Ship to bear the name. Commissioned I7 April I982, CAPE COD's first deployment was a 33 day cruise to San Francisco and Everett, Washington in June l982. WESTPAC '83 marks her first extended deployment. The third of four new modified Gompers class destroyer tenders, CAPE COD provides materials and mobile facilities for ships requiring service or repair inport or at sea.
