This phrase explains the 1979 Football season exactly. Even though we did not have many players, we broke a 15 game losing streak Clinton — 0 Cape Charles — 42. The Varsity Cheerleaders were very busy with many activities this year. Annette Bailey went to a Cheerleading Clinic at ODU. Teresa Powell went to a Cheer- leading Tournament at Kings Dominion. After these two trips, the Cheerleaders worked out a Pom-Pom routine. The Cheerleaders were involved in many of the prepara- tions for Homecoming. To raise money for the Homecoming Float, they sold spirit links. The Cheerleaders brought oranges for the football players. The Cheerleaders also brought the crown for the Homecoming Queen and the mums for the Cli- aton Cheerleaders. On March 14, 1980, the Cheerleaders held a party for the Varsity Basketball players and the Football players. Their sponsors were Valerie Travis and Kim Dunton. 16 Saz zztljal LEFT TO RIGHT — FRONT ROW: Co-Captains — Michele Roehm and Gail Elliott. The Cape Charles High School Girls’ Basketball team received a great “shock this season. They had expected a little success in the season, but, instead they drew the bottom line. The team was winless for 10 games. Although the team was unsuc- cessful as a whole, there was a little individual gleam. Two of the Cape Charles High Seniors were elected for All-District. They were Michele Roehm and Gail Elliott. Better yet, Gail Elliott made the Regional team. This was a suc- cessful and joyful shock for the team 17 Q aziitij JS a± fzztljatt Pat Jones Martin Beckett Lionel Bailey Douglas Perry James Brooks Tommy Mitchell Addison Restein Steve Smith The Boys’ Basketball team was naturally expecting to break the losing streak which has been haunting the team for several years. Each of the players had had experience in playing the game, yet only two of them had experience playing varsity bas- ketball. The team obviously suf- fered from a severe case of instability. As far as confidence goes, the team did not have very much confidence in their coach, who was the backbone of the team. Without the coach you would not know what to do in a tight spot. Pat Jones was chosen for All- District. 18 LEFT TO RIGHT — FRONT ROW: Anthony Alter, Raymond Steffens, Purnell Burgess, Jackie Bai- ley, John Spencer, and Robert Trower. The JV Cheerleaders were new this year. They started out by getting organized and buying uniforms. The JV Cheerleaders worked on a Pom-Pom routine, made spirit buttons, held a bake sale, made cheers, and took oranges to the players at half- time. Some of the JV Cheerlead- ers went to the ODU Cheerlead- ing Clinic. They also gave a party for the JV Basketball players. 20 LEFT TO RIGHT — FRONT ROW: Martha Pruitt — Manager, Terry Dow, Anthony Alter, Douglas Perry, Addison Rustin, Edwin Small, and Andrea Alter — Manager.
