There is a great deal more work involved in getting out a yearbook than most of us realize. All of us appreciate your efforts. We have had a good year. In athletics we have met with outstanding suc- cess. We had a good football season. Our basketball team has been unusually good and we are looking forward to success in baseball also. More important than athletics, we have had a good year scholastically. The senior class gave us good leadership in classroom work. They consistently had half the class on the honor roll. Congratulations, Seniors. May success crown your every effort, and may the future bring you genuine happiness. Our Principal Our Faculty Right to left: MRS. W. LYNN DUNTON---- MRS. CECIL C. Twelve years of training For his graduation- What can he show For his education? He has a roll of paper, A searching look, A heart full of memories, A '61 yearbook. But what has he That all seniors don't? Can he succeed Where others won't? This is the question Which fills him with dread- What shall I be? There's a long road ahead. But wherever he goes- North, south, east, or west- The worst he can do Is not do his best. WARREN TRUITT CASTEEN Recipe for a Graduating Class (Cape Charles High School Style) Ingredients: 32 first graders Yield; 22 graduates Mix together one roomful of pint-sized first graders. Sift out a few who moved away, or didn't quite make the grade. Melt together twenty-one hundred and sixty full school days into twelve short years. Grate in a few hard lessons, sprinkled with uncountable experiences. Add a dash of maturity, season with a pinch of humor, and stir with the guiding hand of the faculty. Beat in a measure of responsibility, and spice with outstanding athletic ability. For color blend in several trophies, a 1961 ARROW, and a long honor roll. Frost with class rings in the junior year. Let rise until the glorious day of graduation. Decorate'with grey and white caps and gowns, and serve with diplomas. Last Will and Testament We, the 1961 Senior Class of Cape Charles High School, Cape Charles, Virginia, being true Indians through and through, and considering ourselves well-schooled in reading, writing, and 'rithmetic, wish to follow in the footsteps of our predecessors by making this, our last will and testament, to be executed in the following order: ARTICLE I. Central 39 A, 36 Febmary 22 Chincoteague 36 30 i To; The District A Group III Eastern Shore Basketball Champions of 1961 Congratulations to our championship basket- ball team 1 Thanks to the coach and team for a wonderful season that ended perfectly. Our first tournament victory over Central on February 20 left us with hearts full of pride and happiness, but also with minds full of antici- pation over the game with the Chincoteague Ponies, our most power- ful opponents on the Shore. Febmary 22 found us tense with excite- ment over the outcome of the deciding contest, the Eastern Shore Championship game. With screams and delighted Indian whoops, the game ended with a 36-30 victory for Cape Charles. We shall never forget these games and the wonderful boys who made the victories pos- sible. Although there is no award for being the Number One team on the Eastern Shore, and no golden cup engraved with District A - Group III - Eastern Shore Champions of 1961, the Indians know that the mythical title belongs to them. No other group of boys deserves more praise than these boys for win- ning the championship. With overwhelming odds and disadvantages, our boys came out victoriously, earning the top honors on the Shore. We would like to say to these boys Thanks for a job well done. We're sure the coach got all the thanks he wanted on Febmary 22, but we want to thank him again and add our wishes for continuous luck for many seasons to come. L WEBSTER COMPANY, INCORPORATED Cheriton, Virginia A SENIOR FAREWELL Memories of the Senior Class of 1961 will gradually fade from your minds, but in our own minds and hearts, we shall always remember the events which have taken place in the last five years. It seems that only yesterday we were bidding tearful goodbyes to those who graduated before us. Now it is our turn to leave. Just a short time ago, we entered high school full of apprehensions and high hopes. We slowly lost our fears as we became more interested in the school activities and gained, as we felt, a little status. When we leave, we shall be taking one of the most important steps in our lives, and even the most exciting future any one of us has will not make us forget good old C.C. H.S. We shall return to watch, not to participate in, school activities and sports. We shall undergo the most lonely feeling when we are no longer an integral part of the school. After graduation, many of us will enter school again and once more we, as young men and women, shall be filled with those same apprehensions and high hopes that we experienced as eighth grade boys and girls. We leave you now, not with tearful goodbyes, but with our best wishes for your good luck and a fond AU REVOIR.
