CAPE CHARLES HIGH SCHOOL That we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us-that we should respect the rights of others as scrupulously as we would have our rights respected-is not a mere counsel of perfection to individuals-but it is the law to which we must conform social institutions and national policy, if we would secure the blessings and abundance of peace.-Henry George £ a ( JUL V 2- J!c -4- CtDh r9 - -- LjLo— OsiAju-o DU. s£e rZ Lifi- zs 7JT MR. HOPEFUL JUNIORS OF 1956 Ellen Bradford Brains Shirley Ward Shirley Gordon Rippon Margaret Barnes Y'Maggie Ann Wise Bell Fiddle Ann Morabito Scosh Margaret Groppenbacher Fingers Joy Bowden Jo A message from “Piggy” to you-“Don’t smoke in bed. The ashes falling on the floor may be your own.” Frank is going to make a fine addition to our community and he can usually be found at the firehouse. Keith was chosen president of our aggregation this year. He, along with the other officers, has done a very fine job and also he is recognized as an outstanding football player. He is often seen heading toward Exmore. I wonder why? “Fiddle” started with us in the sixth grade and has been an asset to our class ever since. She was married recently and her new hobby is hunting for Buddy. Ellen has been the leading student of our class all through school and this is why we call her “Brains.” She is found, most of the time, dreaming of a special someone but she won't tell us who he is. If at first you don’t succeed try, try, again-so goes it with “Rip” who came into the class this year. Besides try- ing to get his English done, he can be found imitating Goose Tatum on the basketball court. Margaret is the most talented girl in our class. She wrote our class song in the seventh grade and can play any- thing from Bach to Boogie. She’s goingto be a great pianist someday and we wish her all the luck in the world. Latest news is that Ann and Tony are going to New- foundland. We all would hate to see “Scoch” go because she has been such a loyal member of our class. This year she was elected treasurer and has done an outstanding job. She and Tony can be found playing chess when Ann isn’t at school. Betty usually lets her mind go blank and forgets to turn the sound off. She has an awful memory, especially when it comes to overdue library books, missing sheet music, and shorthand homework. “Whale Tail,” as we call her, is usually found trying to be Tschaiwkowsky in glee club. Joy came to us this year from Matthews High and on Christmas Eve she married a Cape Charles boy. “Jo” is talented and most co-operative. In her spare time she dreams up new recipes to try on Billy. Shirley has been our representative on the Queen’s float at Thanksgiving for two years. She always helps on our class projects and is more often than not seen riding around with Grover. “Gussie” loves sports but lately she’s been talking more about her chemistry experiments. She loves to sing what she’s not supposed to be singing in Glee Club and is always dreaming about those weekends with You Know Who. “Maggie” has been one of the bulwarks of our class from the first grade. She’s captain of the basketball team and also plays first string softball. Having such ability in athletics, Margaret would like to be a physical ed. teacher. In her idle time she sits waiting fora telephone call. From whom? You guess. Diane, besides having trouble with her sinus when the temperature is minus also has a struggle when she practices basketball. She spends more time on her knees than on her feet. “Creep” has been going steady with Bill S. for seven years and can usually be found riding around with Mary Lou Turner. Wallace is our class mechanic and can fix anything from eggbeaters to tractors. “Winey” is a real handy person to have around. When he’s nof-watching the trains come in with Kay, he could probably be found working on a car with John Chambers. 7 ’ SOPHOMORES MRS. SMITH Advisor John Colona President Jack Hickman Katherine Viveiros Carole Drennen Arnold Hudgins Teddy Phillips Thomas Borum Marcia Sue Ferguson Jane Joyce Betty Lou Marshall Anna Faye Navarro Anna Mae Thornes Clary White Ck THE SOPHOMORES Sing a song of Sophomores, A pocket full of rye. Thirteen little Rats1' Entered Cape Charles High. When the new term opened. Those Rats they were one more. But what had happened to the Rats? Each was a Sophomore. Mr. Nolen was in his office Counting the reports. Mrs. Ames was in the library Feeling'out of sorts. The Sophomores, they went there, too. Each powdering her nose. And soon Mrs. Ames glanced upward And what do you suppose ? Those foolish little Sophomores, Mrs. Ames was thinking clear They'll soon get into trouble With their vanities in here. Several seconds later-- Oh! How those Sophomores felt The look they then did give Mrs. Ames Would make a heart of cement melt. For she had firmly said to them, You naughty, naughty Sophs ! Just for powdering your noses. You'll stay and watch the clock. Hickory, dickory, dock. What's the matter with our school clock? At five to nine It keeps fine time. But at three twenty-seven, it does not! Little Soph, little Soph, where have you been? Been to the office. That's not a sin? Little Soph, little Soph, what happened there ? I received a punishment and I'll beware! Little Gary White Went to the office To see if he had any credits. When he got' there. His credit card was bare. And Gary found out he had none. High diddle, diddle. The teachers all fiddle. The Sophs have to dance to their tune. The little Rats laugh To see such sport. And the Sophs get smart very soon. FRESHMEN Harry Lee Hart Norman Shrieves William McAllen William Ryan James Pruitt A % «v -. r Rebecca Travis William Vick Miss Peggy Brown Betty Rose Ewell Rodney Shrieves Reginald Dyckman 11 . James Rayne Robert Lambertson IN THE FUTURE? ? We dipped and dipped and dipped into the future--And what did we see? Freshmen! Freshmen everywhere! Listen! PRESTON BELL wants to be a game warden, but with Preston’s fine physique we see him as Maryland’s future star half-back. BONNIE COLONA hopes to be a private secretary. We bet Bonnie will be a Powers model of New York modeling beautiful clothes and perfume. REGGIE DYCKMAN says that he’ll be an old man by the time he finishes school, but we imagine Reggie as assistant Professor of Chemistry at C.C.H.S. BETTY ROSE EWELL plans on a secretarial career. Our guess is that Betty will go into the motion picture business as understudy to Francis the Mule. HARRY LEE HART has not made up his mind yet about his future. He will probably write a famous ballad like “I Hear You Knocking, But the Door's Stuck.” BOBBY LAMBERTSON wants to be a mechanic. We picture Bobby as Presi- dent ot the S.P.C.A.--Space Protection for Cold Astronomers. BILLY MC ALLEN wants to go to Apprentice School, but we think he is more suited to the occupation of gardening. Billy can probably be found in later years, planting pansies on the White House Lawn. NORMA PARKS plans on a nursing career but we see her doing the ‘‘Under- water Ballet” at the State Hospital for the members of the Padded Cell. JIMMY PRUITT wants to be professional baseball player for the Cardinals. We think he’ll probably raise a baseball team of his own in due time. JIMMY RAYNE says he’s going to college to woo the girls; unless we miss our guess he’ll be general manager of Rayne’s Super Market. BILLY RYAN wants to be a weatherman. We imagine him as an author, writing books similar to OVER THE CLIFF by Ugo First. NORMAN SHRIEVES thinks he’ll join the happy hooligans of the sea, but with Norman’s ability the Milwaukee Lakers “will throw the grab on him.” RODNEY SHRIEVES dreams of going to Apprentice School but he’ll end up as Dean of Women at an exclusive girls’ school. REBECCA TRAVIS plans to embark on the Sea of Matrimony. Could it be that Rebecca will be Tommy Manville’s twentieth wife? BILLY VICK plans to go to West Point. Our guess is that Billy will start Hollywood’s hearts throbbing as another Rudolph Valentino.
