Sponsors of the senior class are Mr. Tom Herremans and Mr. Alan Keskimaki. Homecoming week was a week filled with much excitement and tension for each class. Candidates for 1970-1971 Homecoming Queen were Dotty Clark, Ruth Hager, Jill Huston, Connie Nowak and June Smith. June Smith was elected by the student body to reign as Homecoming Queen. Our float, Dryden Whoa, came in second place and we tied for the spirit jug with the juniors. Highlight of the year was when anxious awaiting seniors received their pictures early in November after having them taken during the summer. Evening in Toyland was chosen as our theme for the Christmas Ball. Chuck Bollaert and Lynn Foster were our King and Queen. The Christmas Ball proved to be very successful and everyone enjoyed themselves. The traditional colors of royal blue and gold for caps and gowns were changed to our class colors of deep purple and white. The class song is Born Free, and our class flower is a white carnation. Peace and Solitude 31 Classes We opened the year with the election of our class officers and school representatives. Class officers are Dick Ellis, President; Linda Knop, Vice-president; Beth Clark, Secretary; Kathy Stuever, Treasurer. We began working on our float for homecoming to the theme of An Old Fashion Homecoming. With our spirits flying high we tied with the seniors for the spirit jug. Linda Lumbardo represented our class as Princess. Christmas proved rather festive as our class chose Mar- sha Spiller and Jerry Saelens as our Princess and Prince for the annual Christmas Ball. The Junior Prom promises fun and hard work for the Juniors. We are hoping that everyone has an exciting time at Oriental Gardens. As the school year ends, we cannot help but think of all the fun we plan and hope to have again next year as Seniors. W ; e also selected a princess, Nancy Nor- wood, to represent our class on the queen ' s court. The sophomores officially initiated us into the high school in November. We were to carry stuffed animals and wear white socks. The girls had to wear at least five pigtails and the boys parted their hair down the middle. W ' e al- so were honored at a dance with the band, An- other World , presenting the music. We thanked the Sophomore class by giving them an appreciation dance in January. Music was presented by two bands, The Kalidascope and Another World.
