THE CAPACIAN, CAPAC COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, CAPAC, MICHIGAN, KARLENE GRAYBIEL, Editor THIS IS THE YEAR THAT WAS This year, as all years at Capac High, will live on in many hearts for a long time. This year was very im- portant for many people: students, faculty, and administration alike. For the seniors, this year meant their last of education at Capac. And to the re- mainder of the students, it meant pre- paration for their last year, when they too would finally graduate. To the faculty, maybe it meant another year of teaching these students what they needed to pre- pare for the big world outside the school. To the administration, it may have been a year of big decisions. To Arja and Steve, our foreign exchange students, we hope it meant a very profitable year in America. Whatever it meant to whomever was concerned, we hope it meant a year of happiness which they will always want to remember. — The Yearbook Staff TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration 3 Faculty 6 Graduates 1 7 Undergrads 32 Organizations 52 Athletics 56 CAPAC COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL Dedicated 1957 BOARD OF EDUCATION N. Even as this condition was with us, we could see in the future, by viewing the erection of the new elementary school, the time when room will not be our foremost problem, but rather when the availability of space will enable us to put into practice many new and improved programs that have been recommended and discussed during recent years. Yes, that was the year when Capac High School viewed the present with one eye and the future with the other. STEPHEN HAYDEN PRINCIPAL IT ' S BEEN A GREAT YEAR! The 1965-66 school year will be recorded in the pages of history as one of the most productive for the Capac Community Schools educational system. It ' s a year in which many projects were started that will have a lasting affect on educational opportuni- ties of the area. Major projects and activities undertaken by the district this year include: 1. The sale of bonds and the beginning of con- struction of the new Capac Elementary School. 2. The employment of a Director of Special Education Services through a cooperative program with Yale and Memphis. 3. Participation in a County Wide study of vocational education needs in St. Clair County. 4. The employment of a Curriculum Coordina- tor and an expanded guidance program for grades K-12. 5. Installation of a new heating system in the old elementary building. 6. Participation in a County Wide study to determine the feasibility of expanding Port Huron Junior College to a county community college. Yes, it ' s been a great year because much time and effort was spent this year planning to make future years even greater. Henry David Thorean said it, this way, I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor. This marked a good beginning for our final year at C. H. S. Our efforts for a Homecoming float finally paid off, as we placed second. Our biggest project for the year was sponsoring a Christmas Ball on December 11. Diane Greenia and Bill Lamphere reigned as Queen and King. The Ball turned out to be quite a success. This being a year for decisions, we chose navy blue and white as our class colors. Our flowers are white carnations tipped in blue. We have reached for the stars and have gotten stardust, — But the stars still lie ahead, is our class motto. Presently, plans are in the making for our Skip Day and for our Graduation party. this page sponsored bv CAPAC STATE SAVINGS BANK THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY PANTRY BAKERY 20 THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY DR. The play was centered around family life on Vashon Island in the Pugent Sound. Gordon Bade and Nancy Christie made perfect parents while Elaine Massie and Carol Ledebuhr played typical teen-age daughters. The daughters, at first, hate the island and resent being forced to live there. Betty, the mother, tries to persuade them that they ' ll soon love it there, but to no avail. As time progresses though, they do become attached to the island and realize they would hate to move. All members of the cast made the s cenes humerous, warm, and moving. Not only the brilliant abilities of the actors, but also the efforts of the different com- mittees working together, made the pro- duction a huge success. DEBATE CLUB This year the Debate Club ' s subject for debate was Resolved: That the Federal Government Should Adopt a Program of Compulsory Arbitration in Labor-Manage- ment Disputes in the Basic Industries. The negative debaters were Doug Dawson, Lynn Schuneman, Nancy Christie, and Kathy Koning. The affirmative debators were Dolores Manz and Cheryl Malloy. This year the group has a larger member- ship than ever before, and everyone is working harder to help all of the teachers. LIBRARY CLUB The Capac High School Library, directed by Mrs. Marion Fischer, plays a very essential role in the function of the high school. The student librarians not only help the students find materials in the library, but also learn to file, process books and audio-visual materials for cir- culation, and assume many secretarial duties. In addition, they arrange attractive bulletin boards and display cases and help keep the library in good order, all of which help to make a smooth running library and a pleasant place in which to work. 62 THIS PAGE IS SPONSORED BY RAY TOSCH— FARM IMPLEMENTS VARSITY CLUB The year started off with election of officers.
