The Capacian CAPAC COMMUNITY SCHOOL Capac, Michigan Albert Schook — Editor 2 This page sponsored by CLARK BROTHERS EXCAVATING MR. ROBERT SLOAN Principal E pluribus unum — one out of many — this, our national motto tells a story, a story of the success of a whole nation through the fundamental belief in the individual. If the individual in our society is to hold a position of supreme importance, it is necessary that each person accept the full responsibility with which he is charged. A strong democratic country must be composed of strong individuals. In our society the strength of the individual is nurtured and developed by our educational processes. The educational opportunities which are yours at Capac High School are designed to give each individual the strong foundation which is necessary to help build our republic tc even greater heights. Yes, you are truly — E pluribus unum — one out of many. Edwin Markhan, the poet, said it this way: Why build these cities glorious If man unbuilded goes? In vain we build the world, unless The builder also grows. MARY CAMPBELL Secretary to The Principal This page sponsored by MICHIGAN PEAT, INC. This page sponsored by CAPAC SHELL SERVICE This is your Student Council. It is not just another club, but in effect the congress of our high school. There are senators from each class and representatives from each club or organization. To them is entrusted the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of the students at Capac High. The Student Council tries to promote citizenship training through the development of student responsibility, initiative, leadership, and school oride. It also attempts to aid in the internal administration of the school. This year the Student Council sponsored a magazine sale and raised money for two scholarships to provide for further education of two seniors. Two scholarships for Capac students going overseas and a section of new bleachers for the football field were also provided for from this money. A Polaroid camera and eight pennants for the gym were purchased from other Student Council funds. A spring carnival is planned so as to provide funds for the support of two Foriegn Exchange Students in Capac next year. 43 National Honor Society TOP ROW: Left to Right, Heikki Niemi, Kenneth Kobayashi, Albert Schook, John Staniloiu, Alex Henderson, Raymond Perez. Now in its second year of organization, the Capac Future Teachers Club has set its goals of achievement even higher than the previous year. In addition to the Cadet Teaching program and trips to Central and Eastern Michigan Universities, the club has undertaken a scholarship program to be awarded to a deserving senior member. The club, this year, is not only sending two delegates to the State Future Teachers conference, but also a member as a nominee for the state office of secretary-treasurer . The purpose of the club and its varied activities is to give the members an insight into the teaching profession and an opportunity to help them decide on their chosen career in life. Since the beginning of the 1961 -62 school year, the Capac Chapter of the F.H.A. has been engaged in many enjoyable and rewarding group activities. In October we were able to see the Michigan State Spartans romp to a victory over the Stanford team. December saw the F.H.A. and F.F.A. engage in a Christmas Carol sing. For our first meeting of the new year, we were the guests of Carol Criss for an ice skating party. March brought about an invitation from the F.F.A. to go roller skating with them. We gladly accepted] Our April meeting was spent making Easter favors for the children of the Lepeer Home and our last meeting of the year held in May, was a banquet for our mothers and senior members. They attended the annual Farmers Week program in East Lansing and district and regional training activities. In November, five boys were initiated into the chapter as Green Hands and nine boys were raised from Green Hands to Chapter Farmers. Four boys, Paul Glassford, Pat Spencer, Larry Gottschalk, and Maurice Callender, were awarded the Regional Farmer degree. Maurice Callender also had the distinction of being elected Regional Reporter for the coming year. Recreational activities have consisted of a Christmas Party and roller-skating party with the F.H.A.
