■ Mr. Charles Seeley: For his appreciation of our limitations and failings, as well as our inspirations and triumphs, for his willingness to be where we were and to do what we were doing, for his patient endurance of our foolish whims and his ready praise for our worthier endeavors and for his willing loan of priceless ex- perience, we, the Student Council of 1959, proudly dedicate this, our Yearbook. CMlVl CAlfHlUT V AVI A UH Principal CHARLES SEELEY In these troubled times we too frequently are inclined to emphasize and play up the undesirable characteristics of our society. We seem to forget that though these may be troubled times they are also times which offer greater opportunities for advancement and for a better way of life than any period in history. It is often difficult to impress upon young people that education is one such opportunity, that if pur .Jed diligently and conscientiously can open many doors to a brighter future. Life is full of such opportunities, waiting for those who are willing to put forth the effort. We would do well to remember that opportuni- ties multiply as they are seized, they die when neg lected . Charles F. Much time was spent on music fundamentals and developing a higher standard of musical achievement, following a well balanced summer program the Senior Band climaxed their summer work when they appeared at the Michigan State Fair for the tenth consecutive year. Capac Schools became a member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and were entitled to participate in the many and varied events. The fall was occupied with marching band events. The Senior Band played and marched for four foot- ball games, appearing downtown before the games, doing a pregame show and a half-time show. The march- ing season was climaxed with the band appearing in Sperry ' s Department Store Christmas season opener parade in Port Huron. Concert season started following the marching activities and much work was accomplished. A Mid- Winter Concert was played on February 8, by all the bands. Dennis Dell played a piano solo in the M. S. B. O. A. district III Solo and ensemble festival and received a second division rating. John Kersten, Barbara Brennan and Dennis Dell were selected from the M. S. B. O. A. District III office to play in the all district III clinic band in Saginaw, Michigan which was directed by Al Wright the director of Bands from Purdue University. The Junior and Senior Bands participated in the M. S. B. O. A. District III festival in Ffint on March 7, which was a great educational experience for all. The concert season was climaxed by playing a Spring Band Concert in which all the bands participated on May 3, and the Junior and Senior Bands participated in the Blue Water Festival at Port Huron on May 6 and 13. The school year ended with a strong unit on marching fundamentals and appearing at our local Memorial Day parade. Thus ended a full school year of activities with our band members looking forward to summer vacation and the more personal attention found in the Summer Music Program. There were 75 pieces in the Senior Band and 48 pieces in the Junior Band. 52 Page co-sponsors PETERSON ' S LUNCH JERRY ' S BARBER SHOP Drum Major, Gerald Schwartz, Majorettes, Pat Mosher, Pat Zochowski, and Rose Kocis. Varsity Football More boys came out for the 1958 football season than ever before. Injuries caused a lack of depth that hindered the Chiefs throughout the season. The bright spot in the season was the outstanding play of the Chiefs ' Senior Co-captains: John Zwiemik, all-conference selection, and John Kersten, all- conference and all-state selection. Play of some of the underclassmen shows promise of good football in the future. Nine losses came at the hands of the top three teams in our conference. Nine times the defeat was by less than six points. It was a heart breaking season in games won, but bright spots did protrude. Four boys scored over 100 points this season. They were John Kersten (209), Bill Abraham (161), Bob Aguinaga (126), and Larry Kalbfleisch (115). To this they added scrimmage victories over Garfield and Grant Jr. Highs in Port Huron and twice over Dryden. The season had two high lights. First was their trip up north between semesters. Second and the biggest was winning the North Branch Invitational Basket- ball Tourney and bringing home the big winner ' s trophy. It should be added that the Seventh grade team was victorious in their one game downing Brown City 43-13. BELOW: Roger Ryder and Bill Abraham woHc on double plays while Jim Leonard, Bob Porter, and Pat Overs look on . As the yearbook goes to press the baseball team starts to practice. Last year ' s team had no seniors so the entire team is back. Lack of pitching hampered last year ' s team, but the picture is brighter this year with the return of Rey Villasenor after his eye injury early last year. Rey should get good backing from the rest of the pitching staff which consists of Jim Heppner, Gary Metzer, Doug Carroll, and Pat Owens. The infield is pretty well set with Roger Ryder at 3b, Bill Abraham at ss, and Pat Owens at lb. Senior Eugene Owens is going to have to battle to stay ahead of Bob Porter and Jim Leonard at second. John Kersten, Duane Martin, and Larry Kalbfleisch will patrol the outfield with Tom Smith, pitchers Jim Heppner and Gary Metzer in reserve. Loren Clark and freshman Nelson Schuneman will share the catching chores. Coach Smith and the whole team is working hard to improve upon last year ' s 2-9 record. We have tried to record the most important happenings of the year, so when you get in the reminiscing mood you can pick up your Capacian and view the scenes of yesteryear. This annual would not be possible without the help of many people. We are especially grateful to the many merchants who sponsored pages. Without their cooperativeness it would have been financially impossible for us to publish this book. Many thanks are in order for Beverly Franchy, Editor; Mary Ann Moss, Advertising Chairman; Faith Pbstina, Photography Chairman; and Marlene McClellan, Diane Amon, Alice McCluskey, Kathleen Love, and the many others who helped assemble these materials.
