CHARLES SEELEY In this age in which we are living, when the nations of the globe are vigorously competing for world dominance, education becomes more and more significant to the welfare of each individual and to each nation. It has often been said that the nation that most adequately and effectively educates the greatest number of her people will emerge the victor in this all important race. If this is true, and history seems to bear it out, then we have one momentous advantage over our adversaries. That is, that democracy grants to each individual the right to be educated if he so desire. It is an advantage, however, only in so much as each one of us utilizes that opportunity to the best of our ability. As a nation and as individuals we are too often satisfied with a job half done. Half an effort will not win against the keen competition we find ourselves facing today; The education which you are now attaining will provide the foundation for your future. No structure survives on a weak foundation. If you can learn to offer your very best in whatever endeavor you undertake, the foundation will be strong, the structure will survive, democracy will reign. Charles F. Seeley
