_ _ RUTH ROLJLO Secretary to the Superintendent Our School CHARLES SEELEY In this age in which we are living, when the nations of the globe are vigorously competing for world dominance, education becomes more and more significant to the welfare of each individual and to each nation. It has often been said that the nation that most adequately and effectively educates the greatest number of her people will emerge the victor in this all important race. If this is true, and history seems to bear it out, then we have one momentous advantage over our adversaries. That is, that democracy grants to each individual the right to be educated if he so desire. It is an advantage, however, only in so much as each one of us utilizes that opportunity to the best of our ability. As a nation and as individuals we are too often satisfied with a job half done. Half an effort will not win against the keen competition we find ourselves facing today; The education which you are now attaining will provide the foundation for your future. No structure survives on a weak foundation. If you can learn to offer your very best in whatever endeavor you undertake, the foundation will be strong, the structure will survive, democracy will reign. Charles F. The boys had height which is something this school has lacked the last few years. For a Junior High team, they showed a lot of poise and ability during the season combined with plenty of scrap and determination which resulted in a very successful season. The highlight of the season for the whole team was the winning of our first annual Christmas Tournament. After beating Brown City in the first round the boys beat Memphi for the championship in a tight defensive battle 14 - 10. F rom this team will come tomorrow’s varsity which makes Capac High School basketball future look very bright. Its first performance of the school year was in the fall at the Michigan State Fair which is the eleventh consecutive year the Capac High School Band has played there. Then the band took part in performing at the home football games and a Detroit Lions football game at Brigg Stadium. After the football season was over a pep band was formed to play at the home basketball games. This year the band is looking forward to presenting a Winter Band Concert, The Blue Water Band Concert, and performing at many more activities. The officers of the band are Frank Kocis, President; Sandra Fuller, Vice-President; Beverly Cutcher, Secretary-Treasurer; Claudia Amon, Pat Schwartz, and Margaret Judd are librarians. Junior Band REHEARSAL 35 High School Cirls Ensemble This year the Girls’ Ensemble replaces the regular glee club. The big event of the year again was the Blue Water Festival at Port Huron, and part in a spring concert. The Junior Hi Glee Club gave an operetta, “The Emperor’s Nightingale’’, as the program offering. They also took part in the spring concert. They put on a program for the Homemaking Tea in December. There are several soloists in the group. Junior High Glee Club Boys Vocal The boys ' vocal group enjoyed life during the first semester of the school year, but died an untimely death when class schedules were changed for the second semester. i Library Club 37 Future Homemakers of America In the fall we enjoyed being hostess for the Regional F. H. A. meeting, which was held in our school, with 190 in attendance. The theme for the meeting was “Careers in Homemaking “. We held our Initiation meeting for new members with the F. F. A. In November the F. H. A. and F. F. A. held a fair. In December we went Christmas caroling and then to a basketball game. We took part in the State Degrees Committee. We are planning to attend the State F. H. A. Convention in Grand Rapids in April. We are looking forward to and planning a full week’s activities for F. H. A. week in March. We have been asked to exhibit our “Recipe for a good F. H. A. “ bulletin board at the State Convention. Future Farmers of America F. F. A. FAIR EXHIBITS F. F. A. MINSTREL SHOW Science Club Discussion of present topics in science, such as the I. G. Y. program, were of much interest. Also various projects are carried out by the students, such as: bacteria cultures, photography and building of a small X-ray machine. The club is planning two field trips for the spring. Camera Club The club began the year developing, into contact printing, photo schetching, and enlarging. Next came the session of producing the school annual. For spring, plans were to learn photography as it can be used in connection with other hobbies. Hopes were high for a field trip to Powell’s Studio in Detroit. Student Council Constitution Committee This committee made up of two representatives from each class took on the task of drawing up a new constitution for the High School Student Council. The problems confronting them were many and only after many weeks of planning were they able to present a suitable job to the student body for ratification. To aid them in their planning, three of the officers attended a state conference at the University of Michigan. Varsity Club The Varsity Club is made up of letter winners from either football, basketball, baseball, or track. Last fall after home football games we put on dances and with this money we bought Varsity Basketball uniforms: High School Play The Senior and Sophomore classes joined forces to present “Three Blind Dates 1 , a comedy by Bettye Knapp, early in February. The plot concerns itself with the problems which arise when Katy Ellis attempts to change her brother George from a social dim bulb into a social butterfly. When George arrives home from college for summer vacation, he brings along another eager beaver, Neil Olson, and the two of them plan to spend the summer working on their new experiment. They practically take over, and the Ellis family has its collective backs to the wall, almost literally. The part of the house that is not turned into a foul-smelling laboratory is jammed with Katy’s girl friends, thrown in as shock troops to break through George’s stubborn defenses. Many humorous situations arise, but finally, love conquers all. The cast included Claudia Amon, Louis Foster, Keith Fillmore, Leo Berard, Janice Fischer, Pat Kinyon, Jeanne Lincoln, Margaret Judd, Virginia Emmons, and Beverly Cutcher. Dave Criss headed the stage crew. 42 Football Capac Capac Capac Capac Capac Capac Capac Capac 13-25 Anchor Bay 18-25 Brown City ■ 7-18 Lamphere 13_ 0 Dryden -0- 7 Memphis 8-13 New Haven 8-45 Almont 0-20 Armada 44 Cheerleaders Varsity Basketball Although we haven’t much of a record for this year the boys have played their hearts out. Our biggest holdback this year as it has been in the last couple of years is our lack of height. Leading scorer is John Kersten with Bill Abraham next. We lose two seniors this year, the captain Jack Teetzel and Duane Woolman. 46 Junior Varsity Basketball The Junior Varsity Basketball team consisting of fifteen or more players have been working out regularly after school. This fine bunch of youngsters consists of Sophomores and Freshmen. Although these fellows are young and inexperienced they have managed to snap a three game losing streak to go ahead and take the next four. This squad has shown great possibilities, outside of the fact that they have at mid- season won more games than last year. Among these fellows are quite a few that will be seen on the varsity in years to come. Who ' s their coach? You ' ve guessed it, Mr. Richard Steudle.
