RECORDED BY CAPAC SCHOOL CAMERA CLUB 1 CAPAC, MICHIGAN We wish to express our appreciation and affection to Ruth Rollo, our school secretary. For seven years Ruth has served as a patient, wise, practical and friendly secretary. She has been faithful in helping with class records, training class treasurers and giving first aid, besides her many duties as secretary to the Superintendent . And so to you , Ruth, we dedicate The Record ol 1956. It is not always easy to impress young people with the idea that the era of their school days is a golden one. It is only with the passing years that the full realization of this fact will become evident. However, as teachers, we would not be doing our best if we failed to point out that ed- ucation will benefit each of us as individuals as well as the nation and the world. As we enter this age of automaton the importance of the educational foundation will become more and more apparent. It is even now almost essential that every citizen understand modern technology, not just in the factory, but in the home and on the farm as well. The task of securing an adequate education is not an easy one, as some would have you believe; nor should it be. It is my belief that each of you will benefit from your school career almost in the same proportion as the effort you put into it. No one can, or should, do it for you, but all of us will be most happy if we can help along the way. All this was put in shorter and simpler language many years ago when it was said, Seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. Sincerely, Wall er W. (Bright S 1 i pen n ten den t 8d neat ion HOWARD SMITH GERLS WALLACE Trustee Trustee 5 School Liie The crossroads of life And the crossroads of the nation. . Are they so different? The high school student must decide Which way he is going, Just as the traveler must choose Whether to go east on route 30 Or south on 41. What helps him decide ? The way he spends his time in school. A. contests at Almont. Joe Vargo and Richard Smith attended State F. F. A. as delegates from the Capac Chapter. Our new officers went to leadership training school. Student Council The Student Council is an organization of students, elected by students, to serve as their official representatives in all matters of the entire school. It provides a medium through which student opinion, may be voiced and a forum for the con- sideration of common school problems, 37 Camera Club Although our group is small, we have some good enthusiasm and photo interests. We have opened the club to Junior High this year, so as to have a longer period of photography training. We sponsored the Donkey Basketball Game in January. We have been working on developing films , printing , enlarging and tinting of pictures. Trick pictures was the topic for one meeting. We are hoping to develop some real Shutter-Bugs. Our big project of the year is the school yearbook. Our staff was composed of Anna Brieger, Franklin Spotts, Mary Ann Osborn, Jim Barth, Sharron Rhody, Marianne Wood, Mary Ellen Chrysler, Joan Burian, Janet Kaufman, Larry Castle, and Kelly Martin, with Mildred Swem and Mary Ellen Hoyt as advisors. CONFERENCE? r f -L.. Senior High Girls ' Glee Club The Girls ' Glee Club is a non-academic class that functions to promote and sustain interest in vocal music and to provide opportunity for program and concert work before the public. ‘To thee we sing. Jr. High Glee Club Qt ns t rumen ta l (Department 40 The seventy-three piece Capac High School Band is a busy group through the entire year. During the summer season its members spend evenings in rehearsal for- its day on ex- hibition at the Michigan State Fair in Detroit. Through the fall season the marching band spends many hours on the field perfecting the half-time performances for the football games. The winter and spring concert season is spent in rehearsal for the many concerts, contests, festivals and other scheduled appearances. These members enjoy working together to a worth-while performance. 41 JENNIE RHODY Custodian GEORGE RHODY Custodian NORA WILLS Custodian NORA GOTTS CHALK Cook MARY BOETTCHER Cook 44 Football At the beginning of the year almost everything in the athletic department was new. New athletic director, Mr. Seeley, new head coach, Mr. Smith, new assistant coach, Mr. Moore, and many new players. There were only five starters from the 1954 team and two other lettermen. Inexperience was a major handicap, with our entire defensive backfield gone from our 1954 team. Although we didn ' t win a game we gained much experience. More than half of our lettermen were Sophomores and Freshmen. Several players were outstanding in the league. George Kobayashi, a unanimous choice, receiving All-Star honor. Bob Elston and Joe Vargo also placed in the all league selection. With so many returning lettermen. Coach Smith is looking forward to the coming season hopefully. Though many of our enthusiastic supporting players were new to the team, several show very promising aptitude and ability for the following years.
