One of Canyon's most successful departments was that of Art. Those courses offered were ones such as jewelry, commercial art, photography and ceramics. Such study was beneficial for Comanche students because it returned them to a sort of back to basics outlook on what they did. Actually using their hands and creating from scratch caused students to appreciate the work once done by those before them. For ex- ample, jewelry-making students were often seen carrying their tools and materials to classes other than in the hope that they might have had some spare time to complete their projects. They soon real- ized how time-consuming basic creativity could be. Other art students learned how to create advertisementsp artists in this category com- bined relevant art and fine talent in order to contribute to the ad media. Photography stu- dents learned 'the many skills of pleasure pho- tography and career-type work while ceramice students learned the value of functional art. 1. Behind all Canyon students stands the image of the Com- anche influencing their lives, especially their art. 2. Dancing was considered an important art form in the days of the ln- dians, and it still serves as creative outlet for many students. 3. About to mold a masterpiece, Millicent Peterson shows that Art is a class that Comanches can really get into. 4. Clay is shaped into art by the ceramics students, exemplifying the traces of Comanche heritage that exist within Canyon. 8 l, Il v Up dau-
