Histor : Past and Present More classes were added to the history department. This year, an addition to the History Department was a special U.S. History Course. lt's emphasis was on reading. New classes will be added next year too, but they haven't been definitely decided what they will be. All of the new classes added in previous years at C.D.O. have been complete successes. Teachers at C.D.O. were pleased with the results of the nine- week mini-courses. The good thing about the mini- courses was that each student was able to choose among a variety of courses. This made history enioyable for the student, as well as for the teach- ers. In view of the variety of courses offered, and of the well trained faculty at C.D.O., Charles Herner, head of the History Department this year at C.D.O., was saying, l think that we have one of the best History Departments in the entire state of Arizona. 28!Hustory

Using Your Imagination Music, Art and Drama are the three subiects that compose the Fine Arts Department at Canyon del Oro. Mr. Hoopes, the band director, and Mr. Hanky, the director of ensemble and chorus, helped build students skills with their instruments or with their voices. Art director, Mr. Fausher, instructed students to build their skill in the various fields of ceramics, oils and watercolors. Also emphasized is the apprecia- tion and understanding of art and artists. Miss Cook, director of the drama department helps the students build confidence in themselves and to act and perform in front of others. A few other areas for students individual skills are make-up, mime, lighting and stagecraft. A new program has been added to the Fine Arts Department since last year. lt was the Acting Direct- ing Workshop, conducted by Miss Cook. This pro- gram is an intermediate course between Beginning Drama, which is a requirement for this course, and Advanced Drama. lt gives the student a chance to direct and prepare for Advanced Drama. 30 f Fine Arts
