Striving for Better Learnin With an advancing and changing world, the English department continued to fulfill the expectations of graduating students from C.D.O. The department featured courses which helped prepare the student for the iob market or to ready him for college. This year, the advanced English programs for Soph- omores and Freshmen were discontinued due to a school board mandate. John Weismiller, head of the department, hopes the program will be contin- ued the following year. Yearbook was also reins- tated as one-half year English credit for all Juniors, Seniors, and Editors. The class hadn't been an Eng- lish credit for the past two years. Chris Wallace and Mirian Morgan were two new additions to the staff, although they weren't new faces around the school. Mrs. Wallace, who taught sophomore English and media classes, was a substi- tute teacher at Canyon for two years. Ms. Morgan, after a one year absence, returned as advisor of the Palantir, the school newspaper. These different varieties of courses from which the students could choose, said Mr. Weismiller, provided a rich experience for the students. 5 ? X-i-TVX' . 2 24 I English
