Counselors Lend a Hand Helping students become aware of their interests, aptitudes and abilities was the maior goal of Can- yon's counseling department. The counselors worked with the students on a wide variety of prob- lems. A great amount of material was made availa- ble to students about colleges and specific careers. Each counselor had a realm of responsibility. Mrs. Benson handled the educational domain. She helped students with filling out college forms and applications. Mr. DeWeerd taught the Personal Growth and Adjustment classy it assisted students with social problems. He gave aid to all students with problems of this type. Mrs. Nordale offered information about vocational jobs and careers, and she became a full time member of the staff. Mrs. Swofford covered all of the testing done by the school and was the chairman of the awards commit- tee. Mr. Smith handled registration and orientation, and he oversaw the iobs done by the other counse- lors. , I 22 I Counselors
