The Canyon Del Oro speech team was rated first in the state of Arizona and the only speech team invited from Arizona to the pres- tigious UCLA invitational tournament. The club, which is a nonprofit organization, was headed by Mr. Weis- miller. There were several recycling drives held throughout the course of the year which provided the club with sufficient funds for transportation. At the ASU invitational, the CDO novice team of Eric Tasso and Michelle Briere took second place. Three out of the four teams from Canyon Del Oro also made it to quar- ter finals at ASU. 2 Speech! 1 89

According to Mr. Framcon, Auto Mechanics is a growing occu- pation, and the need for skilled mechanics is increasing. Many members feel that belonging to the club has helped their knowledge about automo- biles. The students involved in Auto Tech Club were able to rebuild automobiles and they received the chance to experiment with different testing devices. The club is primarily made of people interested in entering the profession of Auto Mechanics. The Auto Club is growing because of the tremendous student interest and the tangible results of the indus- trial educational program. ' x s - 3 Auto Tech Club! l 91
