Qpeeclwffs I-laueafYeafv ' and Gains This year's Speech and Drama Eagles got off to a good start and are well on their way to developing a strong Canuta forensic and drama tradition. The cafetorium stage is now being fully utilized for play production and flats, lights, and props are being collected at a rapid rate. At right, junior thespian Josie Rios dons her old ladie's garb and delivers a good performance in the drama class' production of Wed- ding at Sunrise. On page 69, at the lower right hand corner, Senior John Hall plays the bat-wielding disgruntled father in the same pro- duction. Also on the opposite page, junior Ramon Alvarez can be seen as the husband and Scrooge in the Drama department's Christmas effort, The Christmas Gifts. This years one-act U.I.L. entry was the psychological play, Suppressed Desires featuring Senior Tim Ortiz, and junior girls Sandra Lugo and Debbie Schichtl. Speech competition-wise: Josie Naramore and Elias Munoz headed up the persuasive speakesg Christi Hambrick and Eddie Howell han- dled the informative chores: Debbie Schichtl, Sylvia Mejia and Myrna Quinones waxed poetic: Betsy Bickley and Gary Grayson read prose: and Carlos Carrasco and Sergio Coronado teamed up for Debate. 55 4 2. .:- - iii . .. 113 -24.-4 -,

This April, the girls, led by president Lupe Moreno, con- ducted an Easter egg hunt for the Headstart tykers. Earlier this year, the H.E.R.O. chapter kept love-struck Eagles in flowers by offering good deals on red carna- tions. Included among this year's varied activities for the girls were: refreshment serving duties at dances, Friday teacher lunches and the end of year Mid- land convention.
