They spent their sum- mer vacation at cheerleading camp and at U.T.E.P. working on new cheers, chants, coordination and get- ting their bodies into condition. Their main goal was to boost pride and please the spectators at all school athletic functions. This year's squad was dominated by senior gals. Rosalia Madrid, with three years of varsity experience was chosen as head cheer chick, responsible for keeping the group organized and out of trouble. For her first year, Jenny Perez showed a lot of know-how when it came to building those ceiling-high pyramids. Shawn Mowery. another first year member, really got into the middle of things . . . let's don't forget her cartwheel in the middle of the field as our football team stormed over her accomplishment Coopsll. Betsy Bickley, after two years of cheering, came out of her shell with a yell that Eagle fans knew was full of enthusiasm and pride. Debi Gothard claimed that this year was the great- est , and that her fellow Eagles wouldn't forget her Spanish cheers with southern accent, Ca la veem, a la voomj. This group of cheerleaders was given a few more privleges than past year's squads. They were allowed to go to Ruidoso with the Varsity Basketball team for a three-day tourney. Mr. Hauffman went along as cha- perone and ended up being Big Mama to five enthu- siastic night owls.
