Varsity strikes The 1969 Varsity football unit with its high esprit de corps met the stiffest competition in the Northern League in many years. Under the guidance of the “Old Fox,” Mr. John Oliver, and under Mr. Audet and the newcomer to Var- sity football, Mr. Hayden, the Canton Bears displayed a repertoire that baffled many of their 1969 opponents. Who needs wings? 21 Offensive challenge The J.V. Football team under Coach Riggs and Coach Chisholm put in a long season. The team with the use of many freshmen held a record of 2-4-1. Next year will call for a rebuilding since sophomores will be moving up. Who got the penalty? What play was that? They won’t catch me. Yes it’s them. 22 Things get rough. J.V. A strong offense with All Northerns A1 Hudson, Wayne Williams, Steve Ellis, Ed Gauthier, and Bill Meenan. With good defensive play in the net, Canton came out with a 7-5 record which made them third in the Northern League. How did it get there? mm Mg® . guts ■ ■ gmM| mggr-ssgg 25 J.V. SOCCER: Row 1: P. Steve Cannon led the group with 8 individual goals and several assists. A strong defense with Pierre Leroux as goalie and Jim Roach, Rodney DeLorme, Bill Moore, and Jim Meenan on line allowed the opposition only 3 scores. Charge! Wait a minute. What do I do? 27 CROSS COUNTRY: Coach Hourihan, D. Peckham, E. Janack, L. Russell, S. Decker, R. LeDuc, S. McBath, D. Fields, B. Watson, E. Rear, C. Terrillian. Victory to the swift Cross Country at Canton is a sport that is enjoyed only by the boys and the coach. Personal satisfaction and conditioning are all they have. With two wins over Madrid Waddington, one against Ogdensburg, and two over Holy Family, they finished third at the Interdivisional Meet at Brushton Moira. Hourihan’s Harriers standing in the Western Division was fourth out of six teams. Seniors Ricky LeDuc, Steven McBath, Ed Janack, and Steve Decker will be missed next year. When do I finish?
