HE 1950 football season was not an outstanding one, but one that wlll lmger 1n the memorles of the students for a long tlme The Bears d1d a swell Job at Saranac Lake for a smalltown team The tned score C6 to 62 mdxcated a good game but with Canton outwelghed on the average of thlrty pounds per man, the fmal tally was somethmg to boast about The second game brought out the flght ln Coach Ollver s team We beat Tupper Lake 42 to 13 To prove the excltement, the cheerleaders gave a cheer for Tupper Lake wh1le the Bears were bemg pushed back for a loss For the fmrst tlme 1n several years, every member of the team had a chance to play Roger Allen w1th h1s fancy footwork made s1x touchdowns m that game The th1rd game of the season wlth Ogdens burg, ended ln a scoreless t1e 'I'he fourth game was fallmg by the bucketful and the fleld was L? f ' X 4 K '- tk X 'N' Football covered with mud and water Canton came out on top, with Gouverneur O and Canton 6 The next game was one that we all, especxally the football team, would l1ke to forget The Bears went down m the1r fxrst defeat of the season at the hands of the Franklin Academy Huskles, 20 to The most excitmg and the best fought game of the season was at Massena The Golden Bears gave the Red Raxders a scare before bowing to the league leaders, 14 0 The fmal game of the 1950 season was nothmg to brag about We lost 14 0 to the Potsdam Sandstoners Three members of the Golden Bears made the All Northern team, pxcked by the staffs of the Gouverneur Tr1bune Press, ' the Potsdam Herald, and the St Lawrence Plaindea er Iim Santlmaw made left end Roger Allen, full center Twzrlefcv J JORDAN S OLIN clsn-zu. u 26 DUIOULIN A LATIIER C P . . . . . 9, xx 1 J X 2 ' ' Z X ' . HE 1950 51 basketball team won f1ve of 1ts slxteen games The flrst game of the season was played at Norwood The C H S courtsters almost overtook the Kxttens, but wlth the advantage of the1r small home court the Not wooders won 55 52 The Golden Bears won the1r second and thlrd X 1 games, dowmng Malone 50 48 and V Gouverneur 56 44 'I'hen the I-Ious ton coached team took flve stralght losses, bemg beaten by Tupper me outstandmg Blue Devu, stood I !! s1x feet sxxb, Potsdam Massena, and Saranac Lake In the fourth f1rst game of the second round of the Northern League gave the Bears a needed hft, and they won the1r next game wlth Gouverneur 59 50 But the w1nn1ng streak dldn t last The Golden Fzve were handed four losses before they faced the Saranac Iakers for the second tlme and downed the Redskms 69 64 In the fmal game of the season, w1th Norwood the Bears agaln were beaten, 72 45 A non league game played wlth 'I'heresa the Bears Roger Allen and Bruce Vlertel were the Bears outstandmg back board men 11m Santlmaw and Ilm perlod of the Saranac game, the Bears put on a fme Flnnegan were excellent play makers Allen led the scor exh1b1t1on of basketball and almost beat the Redskms mg column w1th 202 points Harry Newvxne, w1th 114 The Canton hoopsters gave the Malone f1ve a run poxnts, and Tom Gallmger were the outstandmg Iumor for the1r money and overpowered them 64 50 Th1s Varslty players Cbeerleaclm 1 1 7 J BACKUS,L HILL,J ANTHONLJ ELLSl0R1'H,P CR0lLEY,N PLACE 28 X X 'Q . - . . gg it 9 ' . . . 5 P ' U ' i , .
