Dedication To Mr. Meng, teacher, counselor, and friend, absent in the service of his country, the Class of 1945, in affectionate appreciation, dedicate this “Algonquin,” with the hope that his return to the scenes it recalls will not long be delayed. Foreword The past four years have been years of chaos and sor- row, by which we have been deeply moved. Now, as the friends and fellow students who have not been able to share with us the scenes recorded in this “Algonquin” for 1945. The Algcnquin Staff Ed., Dexter High School, 7—Physical Training. The officers elected last June to guide the group through the coming year were Shirley Thompson, President; Norine Forsythe, Vice-President; Eliza- beth Desmond, Secretary, and Barbara Norton, Treasurer. In October, the initiation of twenty-two new members opened the activities of the year. With house parties, hikes, dances, a Christmas party for the alumnae, and the annual formal banquet on Class Night, there was never a dull moment for the Amazons. “The Wash “The Wash” had a larger staff this year than ever before. An effort was made to add to the educational value of the publication and to make it more than merely another school paper. During the year, the staff lost several of its members, including one of the advisers, Mr. Meng, who entered the Navy. The staff for 1944-45 included: Editor, Betty Lit- tlejohn; Assistant Editor, Barbara Hunt; Literary Editors. Betty Nash, Shirley Grandaw, Elaine Rodee, Ann Blackburn; Feature Editors, Margerie McCar- thy, Pat Harrington, Pat Desmond, Teresa Good- bout; Exchange Editor, Dorajean Kenyon; Art Edi- tors, Vere Wood, Mary Segar, Shirley Paige; Busi- ness Manager, Pat Aldous; Sports Editor, Harold Moore; Mimeographing, Kay Pearl, Pat Reed, Ann Goodbout, June Finnegan, Eleanor Loucks; Jokes Editor, Robert Clark; Typists, Arlene Dishaw, Claire Besaw, Evelyn Denney; Music Reporter, Don Stearns; Reporters, Catherine Crowley, Tom Cal- non, Ann Carraher, Eleanor Noble; Advisers, Miss Wheeler, Miss Barber. Radio Workshop The Radio Workshop is an unorganized group of Canton High School students who are interested in radio work. Although it does not act in conjunction with either of the two dramatic societies, it offers similar benefits to its members. Anyone who is willing to devote his time and effort to this activity is a welcome member. Students control and operate the public address system in the school. At the beginning of the year. John Oliver, Paul Hayden, and Dorajean Kenyon were the regular announcers. In their places Shir- ley Paige, Betty Nash, Bob Farmer, Mary Whalen, Dick Michaels, and Betty Littlejohn have substitut- ed. The members of the Radio Workshop, under the direction of Mrs. Williams, also present semi-month- ly programs over Station WSLB.
