N MODERIAN STAFF The new annual staff was selected by the faculty and notified of their duties last spring. We went to work as soon as school started. Pictures had to be taken, cut, and mounted. After much work and many convincing arguments we ordered padded covers. This is the fifth annual, but our first one with padded covers. We have enjoyed working together this year on the Moderian and hope that each staff in the years to come may try to keep up the quality that we have strived to obtain in the 1942 Moderian. We appreciate Miss Beck's help and suggestions more than we can tell. CANTONIAN STAFF There's a little of everything in each issue-sports, feature stories, comics, alumni activities, gossip, coming activities and events, yes, its all in the Cantonian. Published monthly, it is, and the journalism students enjoy working together. Miss Kayler, is the new sponsor and with the able assistance of editor Rhea Hawkins, much progress has been made. Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores are rep' resented on the staff. We sincerely hope the staff of next year will have as much pleasure working together as we have had, and wish them success in each and every effort to produce a Cantonian that will be enjoyed as others have been in years gone by. The Club sponsored the sale of Coca-Cola in order to provide funds, At Christmas time the club cooperated with the Music Department in pre- senting a production entitled A Lost Carol. This production was presented before the Promoters Club and also the student body. The annual club play entitled Wild Ginger was presented on February 21. This was given to a very appreciative, but not lage audience, The Dramatic Club assists in various programs during the year, such as, Armis- tice Day, Thanksgiving, Easter, Programs. One of the unique contributions of the 1941-1942 club was the production written and produced by Helen Linsenbigler. She was assisted by members of the club and the production was a total student production. One half of the proceeds was given to the Red Cross. A Junior Dramatic Club was organized in order to provide for Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth graders. This group is in its infancy yet, but as time goes on it is ex- pected to develop into a beneficial group. Both Clubs are given the benefit of Mr. Fl0hr's able assistance. Back Row: C. McKenzie, G. During the year, the show case in the main lobby has been kept well filled with exhibition prints. The dark-room has been attractively redecorated by the members during their free periods. Noon movies were sponsored as usual. The most outstanding thing con- cerning the club this year is the manner in which the members have been expressing their originality and initiative in the scien- tific and artistic making of fine pictures. The club is under the direction of Mr. Pensyl who is an experienced pictorial photographer. STOP! LOOK!! LISTEN!!! These are three words backed up by the C. T. Junior Police. The 1941 and 42 squad under the capable leadership of Mr. Ferguson and supervis- ion of the Stark County Sheriff Patrol, has done a commendable piece of work in per- forming its duty. The purpose of this organization is to assist bus drivers to and from school, to patrol the halls, and to aid motorists in parking their cars at special occasions. With everyone willing to cooperate, the Junior Police will make this community a better and safer place in which to live. Back Row I oft to Right-Mr. Ferguson, J. Tripp, D. Grubbs, D. Here comes the band perform- ing for football games both at home and ? away. 5 The winter months found the band add- f ing to the enthusiasm of the basketball games, planning a party, and working hard for the half-hour concert at the County Teachers' Institute. Spring brought the contests in solo and ensemble numbers at Jackson Township and at Berea. The organization entered the Band Contest on April 11, at Kent. But the climax of the school year came two weeks later on the evening of the Spring Concert. Attention!!! Forward March . . . That is the call of the Drum Corps as they start out the school year. During football season many periods are spent marching with the band in preparation for their colorful dis- plays. The Drum Corps consists of twenty-one members including twelve drummers, two cymbol players, two scotch drummers, and five twirlers. Their president is Sarah Mae Lloyd. Now comes the festival with its amuse- ments and gayiety, next Armistice Day program calling for long marching, and last the concert which displays the accom- plishments throughout the year. Thus ends a busy season of activities for the only Drum Corps in Stark County. DRUM CORPS Top Row: Eshrar L. Hllsf H YVIILITVIXI D Pechtol NV Mclwlfu h NI Pull D Hskrs Second Row: R. YVike. On the twenty-seventh of March the vocal groups of the high school, aided by the grade schools, presented their annual concert. The theme for the evening was i'America Marches on in Song. This patriotic program reached its climax when the group sang Ballad for Americans. The orchestra too has had a varied program.
