OUTSTANDING SENIOR SENIOR GIRL Debra Lynn Bednarz, Co-Salutatorian of the class of 1973, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bednarz. Debbie is a young lady with much physical energy and she uses this youthful vibrance in a posi- tive manner. Debbie is a versatile musician, playing the trombone. She is an offi- cer of the GAA and was an outstanding organizer of and player on the Red and Grey Basketball Team. Two of the highlights of Debbie’s high school career were her partici- pation in Girls’ State as a junior and her selection as Teen-Ager-of- the-Month as a senior. Her fellow classmates elected her president of the sophomore class; she has served on the Student Executive Board and holds a two year membership in the National Honor Society. She has held the vice presidency and presidency of the Tri-Hi-Y and membership in the Junior Classical League. Ohio Northern University has named Debbie a Getty’’ scholar, Timken has named her an alternate in their scholarship program and the Elks have granted her a monetary honor. BOY Robert Edward Smith, Co-Valedictorian of the class of 1973, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Smith. Robert graduates with a four point average. Robert, although quite active in many endeav- ors has never permitted his academics to become secondary and thus he has added to his accomplishments the earning of the State Board of Education Award of Distinction. As a sophomore, Robert was elected class president and served on the Student Executive Board. He joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and became its secretary as a senior. He was tapped for the National Honor Society as a junior and also joined the Hi-Y and became its vice president as a senior. Civically Rob- ert has been active in Environmental Crisis Society. Junior Achievement and Gold Rush Walk. Athletically Robert has played defensive halfback in football and pitches for the baseball team and played intramural basketball. Robert was recently named a Timken Company scholarship recip- ient and plans to use this grant to study chemical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. 17
