Our theme is HANDS - busy hands, talented hands, hands of friendship - hands that perform countless tasks tor us, hands that carry out the creations of trained minds, hands to help us communicate ideas. Hands are grasping devices - they enable us to take a tirm hold on many material things of our culture. They are extensions ot our minds - train them, coordinate them with a learned mind, let them demonstrate your strengths and accomplishments. Extend them kindly in friendly handclasp, willingly in service to others, and humbly in thanktulness for your many blessings and the fruits ot your ettorts. The Moderian Statt presents this twenty-third yearbook to its readers with the hope that it may bring to you many wonderful memories and interesting recollections. I I I ADMINISTRATION MR. Mr. Luckey makes suggestions to Under- classmen on the techniques of sheet metal work. Opening exercises in Mr. Perez's modern language classes include the pledge to the flag in Spanish, among many student- directed activities. 68 Sophomore boys, under Mr. Frank's guidance, apply prac- tical mathematics as they learn that accuracy is essential to proper fit in woodworking. t A thoughtful tug on the ear, a contempla- tive massage of the chin indicate that pointed questions stimulate active thought among students in Mrs. Fiedler's English classes. Vocal solos by Sandy Cairns, and instrumental specialties by Pat Messenger and Don Latta con- tributed additional sparkle to the fast-moving An- nual Variety Show given in February. Other solo highlights were the baton specialty of Sharon Hostetler, tap solos by Karen Chotfin and Donna Young, vocal solos by Judy Haver and Charlotte Hampton, and Jerry Weaver's impersona- tion of Gene Krupa at the drums. Part of the 'fun of producing a well-received show is the counting of proceeds and the expecta- tion of profits, Leatherworking is an interesting phase of the Crafts Class. Here, Mr. Ferguson sfollows with critical eye the work of several Upperclassmen. A mixed-grade group forms a critical audience in the Public Speaking Class, which provides practical experience in addition to the study of fundamentals.
