NATIONAL FORENSIC LEAGUE The N. F. L. helps promote a student in forensic speaking. The debate team argues pro cmd con on international issues. In N. F. L., there are two dif- ferent fields in which the student may perform. He may enter extemporan- eous speaking, in which the student is given an hour to prepare a speech on one of three topics which he selects, or he may enter oratorical declamation whereby he interprets great speeches of history. The fields of humerous and dramatic oratory involve reading and acting of excerpts from famous plays. For original oratory the student must write and prepare his own speech. Row 1 fleft to right? J. Page 25 DEBATE Participation in Debate activity is open to all high school students and is suggested for students preparing to go on to college. Debate affords oppor- tunities to become acquainted with vital questions of the day. Participants learn organization as they prepare their cases. They learn to think on their feet as they present speeches and refute the arguments of the op- position. Although the group was small at the beginning of the year, there has been quite a bit of interest shown on the part of underclassmen. Through the capable leadership of Mr. Leles, the team has made a fine showing, and with the experience gained this year, is looking forward to outstanding success in the future.
