I Each school year has its fair share of changes. I New faces, personalities and experiences add to the uniqueness of an individual year. This year, I Canton R-V has had an abundance of changes. The school has received a massive face-lift, in more ways than one. Alterations within the academic arena have been numerous. A Spanish class was offered to juniors and seniors in conjunction with C-SC, graduation requirements were raised to twenty-two credits by the state legislature, the length of classes was shortened to fifty minutes and a seventh period was added. Study halls were included in the curriculum and the junior high experienced an exploritory program consisting of six week segments of electives. In addition to academic alterations, there were also a vast amount of building renovations. These renovations were morejhan consmetic, they were geared toward making our building more efficient and structurally sound. A new “high-tech” phone system was installed, the brick on the original structure was sandblasted and tuck pointed, the roofs were repaired, electrical rewiring and window replacement were scheduled for the summer months. The cafeteria now offers a salad bar, delicious pudding pops, chocolate chip cookies, and fresh doughy pretzels. Some more rules regulating student behavior were also added and already existing regulations were strictly enforced. Hall passes were required more religiously, students remained outside the building until 8:30 a.m., and “straw enforcement” was increased as faculty members cracked down on sly students smuggling straws from the lunchroom. In short, the fiftieth volume of FLASH has captured the year of the face-lift.

Ladders, ropes and platforms make morning sidewalk travel mildly treacherous for Davy Woodworth and W. G. Lewis. Transfixed by dare-devil workman, students wait in the brisk morning air for the school doors to open.
