New Beginning The Senior continues, “It’s a time to spend money. From the minute you got to school that first day as a Senior, you started spending it. Money for the ACT, SAT, or CLEP tests; for renting you cap and gown, and don’t forget your graduation announcements. Add this to expenses from the Prom and the Senior trip, and you’ve managed to spend quite a bundle. Last of all, it’s a year for breaking virtually any ties you may have. There are, of course, the more obvious ones, such as teachers and organizations. You also have the heart-breaking job of saying goodbye to many of your friends, many of whom you may not see again until a class reunion. Probably the hardest tie to break is the one you have with your family. Most people don’t realize it, but once you’re out on your own, whether it’s college, work, or marriage, you’re really never home again until you have a home of your own.” Hopefully, no one has been scared off by what’s written here. Admittedly, the Senior year is a hard one—there are new responsibilities and growing up overnight is an expected process. But there are also lots of good things. The Senior year is a major stepping stone from childhood to the begining of adult life. —A Senior 15
