Student Councils Active Throughout School Year Student council for 1969 was crumpled paper cups on the floor after a dance, long arguments over the fine points of parliamentary procedure, a ride on the bus to the Kahoka rink for a skating party, a gym jammed with 200 kids from all over Northeast Missouri listening in a district workshop to a fantastically enthusiastic Coloradan named Earl Reum, and 28 kids learning by trial and error how to work together. The senior high student council was led through a year that included the absorption of the Williamstown school district, the enrollment of CHS students in the Hannibal Vocational School, and the construction of a new addition by Sam Calvert, who was elected president by the narrowest margin in recent years, vice-president Janet Mohr, secretary Cathy Burge and treasurer Susan Hendrickson. Junior high student council members were elected in the fall of 1968. Mary Ann Orf served as president of the council which sponsored several parties and activities for just the junior high school, assisted the senior high council in construction of a homecoming float and the district workshop, and educated its members in the role of student council in the school.
