Our theme of sunrise and sunset reminds us of our coming and going, of our past and our future, of moments both extraordinary and routine. We present this yearbook to you as a record of events that will be remembered and enjoyed for years to come. fa , E uns? M2 --7 G '....J'-:: 40 'NN DEDICATION The members of the class of 1979 wish to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Michael Nagle for his warmth and generosity to all. When Mr. Nagle is not in class or on the basketball court, he may be found talking to students and helping them with their problems. Mr. Nagle, in his own way, has made an impression on our senior class since we were freshmen. Mr. Nagle has been involved in many of our student activities. He has served as the assistant math team coach by helping us in math and by working at the Canton football concession stand. He has generously vol- unteered his Sundays to work at Patriots' games for student scholarships. Also he has driv- en to math meets and stayed for greasy dinners with the math team. He always had some good jokes for the way home. Mr. Nagle, you have given us many happy memories. We wish to thank you by dedicating our collection of memories to you. For fundraisers we have sold Bulldogs Are Beautiful shirts, participated in a candy sale, and enjoyed a senior sponsored dance. Our semi-formal held at VaIIe's Steak House had an enormous turnout. The seniors have become very close this year. Together we have participated in the senior breakfast, the senior banquet, and the senior prom at The Chateau d'ViIIe. The alumni class of 1979 will be arriving any moment now. The invitations were sent out months ago, to all corners of the world, thanks to the efforts of anthropologist, Helenann Cammarata, Cindy Conti, dentist, Dina Boufides and our class president, John King. Ricky Berard, Amy Clark, Carol Cravens, who is now an executive secretary, Gina Capalletti, Robyn Murphy, David Spector and Bob Ricci, also helped out. Invitations were sent to the law offices of Steve Coleman, Chris Branca, Gary Weiner, Joe Waystack, Byron O'Donnell and Ginny Crimmins. These offices are scattered in various cities throughout the country. Some invitations were sent as far away as France where Dianna DiCostanzo, Colleen Shea, Annette lppolito, Nancy Simm, Lisa MacKay and Carolyn Gramer were making return visits. Pat Hagan, Val Reynolds, Paula Robinson, the famous roller-skater, and Sue Perry received their invitations while making another trip to Bermuda. Receiving invitations in New York City were Broadway actress Debbie O'Connor and fashion designer, Kevin Killeen. Debbie, Judy Marshall, Craig Rodman and Vincent Pizzi, who flew in from California, agreed to perform for our musical entertainment. Also participating in the entertainment were the former Canton High School Band and Chorus, which included Linda Blackler, Kevin Daley, Lori Paull, Chuck Speros, Sandra Strumski, Kerrie Grover, Ros Puopolo, Pam Derry, Susan Linnet and Maureen Smith. Bonnie MacLeod could not accompany on the piano due to a previous engagement with the Boston Conservatory. Other regrets were received from Lisa Goetze, Marlene Fineberg and Michael Cook who were busy in Washington D.C., Sarah Graham who was having problems with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Pat Henley who was on a marine-biology assignment in the Pacific. Our former State Champ, Debbie Poore was attending a diving engage- .,.... ment in Hawaii. Neither David McCarthy nor Dave Marshalka were able to attend. . David McCarthy was vacationing in St. Thomas and Dave Marshalka was skiing in Aspen. Our last regrets were from Nancy Keenan who was visiting Kathy Mulcahey in Arizona and John Gianeiii who was vacationing at Disney World. Come seven o'clock, our first guests began to arrive. Kathy Good, Julie Payne and Julie VanderHule were the first arrivals. They came in Julie P.'s white car. Melissa Holliday, Cindy Byars and Robin Hurst joined them in the foyer and they began exchanging stories. As one glanced around the foyer many familiar faces could be spotted. John McCarthy, Walter Hardy and John Kent were seen talking with Bob Greenstein, Joe Canavan, and Andy Jenkins as they checked their coats. They all turned to greet Brendan Sullivan when he arrived. ' The next car to pull up was a white panelled Bobcat . A dark-haired girl, referred to as K.G., and three others, Kay-tee, Lo-Nan and Shameels stepped out. Jim Carroll, Sydney Webbe, John Russell and David Cahill could be heard reminiscing of the C.H.S. plays and happy times in Room 102. Next to arrive were some of the organizers of the event, Ricky Berard and David Spector. Immediately, they began collecting invitations and John Fucci, Billy Homer, Richard Lane and Richard Manning proceeded into the dining room. Ron Gilbertson, George Colp, Joe Canavan and Bob Lane were the first to see the elegant room. The main dining room was decorated in a green and white color scheme. The plants and other decorations were supplied by Joe Cogliano. Our former rally committee, Linda Crawford, Linda Woodworth, Mary Smith, Jane Malloy, Caroline Connelly, Nancy Canale, Laurie Roach, Jean Malloy, Maura Kilgallon, Judi Bulman, Barbara Lavin, Paula Bertino, Joanne Montisano, Judy Costello, Mary Clare Studholme and Karen Wentworth did an outstanding job in their decorating. Michael Raggiani and David Baker are planning on covering the occasion for the Boston Globe. Susan and Cheryl Weiner, fashion editors on the Globe Staff will also attend the event. l The next guests to arrive were Carolyn Saffer, Jill Murphy, Marianne Martino, Michael Powers and Mark Cotter. They arrived from Milton in a blue van. Tracy Heap, Michelle Benoit, Gail Corwin, Carolyn Caffarella, Debbie Sumner, Mary Wright, and Laurie Dardano piled out. Following directly were the twins Meg and Mary Cotter and their cousin Maribeth Brosnahan who came in Patty Harding's car along with Sandy Uliano who joined Chico inside. As we entered the dining-room, the fashion show was getting underway. Announcer, Robin Liftman, introduced the first model, Lora Nannery, who was sporting a black dress designed by Kevin Killeen. Grace Callahan, Julie Keefe and Carol Burke who had a front row table, could be heard commenting on each outfit. Photographer, Tom Leveckis concentrated on the fashion show, while Andy Goodman and Jeff Hellmuth took candid shots. Some great shots were taken of Denise Arsenault and director Robin D'Alusio, the Breck girls of 1989. Hair stylists' Debby Wagner, Mary Zogalis and Robin Kashmanian gave them some hints concerning hair care. During the fashion show, members of the Canton High Hockey team arrived, Dennis Aldrich, Steve Botsch, Doug Knapp, Jerry Dalton, Peter Sullivan, Lou Kantaros, Jack Shoener, Steve McClellan and Mark Cavanagh strolled in. At about eight o'clock the dancing began. The first people on the dance floor were Rhonda Rosenberg, who was seen with a tall, dark stranger. Paul Bonanno, Melissa Uliano, Steve Woodworth, Richard Schnider, elementary school teacher, Jennifer Glassman, Bill Hardy, Anne Pulcini, Chris Lagadinos, Maryann Costello and Mark Lester. They all followed junior prom queen Lori Davenport and her date, who led the first dance. At this time, golf pros Ken Gagnon. Jimmy Leary, and Mark Eardley arrived followed by Mike Trunfio, Al Merola, Ed Madden, Peter Glick, Robert Hood and Darran Booth, who is known for painting realistic war scenes. His paintings, along with others by George Hannon, 7. xx 4-Gs 4 x A Roberta Glass, Chris Donchess, Sue MacAdam Cammarata's famous jewelry designs were on and Kendra Taylor were on display in the foyer. Also, pieces of Lisa display. Intermission provided people with time to catch up on some gossip. lt seems Policewoman Kathy Wood gave Julie Mills a ticket for illegally parking outside her sister's house. Robin Friel now owns a health spa in Stoughton. Billy Flanagan, Jay Francis, Mark Lambert, Steve Foley, and Bob Ziedelis are now affiliated with the Boston Celtics. Sandra Galizio, Carla McCloskey, Diane Brophy, Kathleen Donahue, Jane Stasikelis, Le'Ann Millinder and Jeff Kay are now interpreters at the United Nations. Elsa Hagberg and Susan Staples are professors at Sarah Lawrence and Princeton, respectively. David Devine seems to have struck it rich. He controls the Mobil oil wells in Texas. Kathy Page and Joe Connely are now co-owners of Star Markets while Joe Lawler is owner of Crowells. Laurie Jacobs and Sandy Rinaldi, co-owners of the Howard Johnsons in Canton are anxious to talk to Wayne Evans and David Stevens, the new owners of Brighams. At another table, interior decorator, Renee Come, was busy discussing with Bobby Keach, some ideas for the homes he just built. Across the room, Peggy McGilvary, Terry McNeil, Lisa Smith, Nancy Munroe and Maureen Kelly, members of the well-remembered fieldhockey team are reminiscing with softball teammates, Stacy Hainline, Mary Mima McCarthy, Cindy MacDonald and Shirley Sullivan. Meanwhile, Bill Shaw, Donald Lewis, Eric suds Hanson, Fred Haley, Michael Pasquarosa, Bobby Kenyon, and Jeff McCourt enjoyed the delicious yugers Cancient Chinese popsiclesj supplied by Julie Mills, a kindergarten teacher. Next to their table, Debbie Goodrich and some girls named Shoemac and Shameels were singing a verse of Look at Linda W. for old time sake. Guests were still arriving at nine o'clock. Larry Gualteri, Bobby Flaherty and Doug Saunders arrived in Larry's blue Volkswagon. Susan DiRosario and Sheila Hartnett were next to arrive. They were greeted warmly by Rose Dolan, John Gavigan, Amy Spigel and James Wheeler who have remained as friendly as they were in high school. Kathy Hasenfuss and Janice Toronto were joined at their table by Eric d'Hedouville who drove up from the Cape with Dyanne Malone. 122 Famous cartoonist, Alec Wright was seen talking to someone he referred to as Space and Tom Ward, Tommy O'Brien, and Joe Dunn. Come ten o'cIock, Jeff Widberg, Linda Francescon, Ken Banks, Marianne Vierra, and Mike Berardi joined the others on the dance floor, disco R.R., D.O., K.T. and H.A.C. and Patrick O'Brien. Larry Peters, Kevin Downey and Steve Van Newkirk could be heard laughing with themselves and others all evening. So many were seeing each other for the first time in 10 years. Brian Dooley could be seen making eyes at the girls sitting at the table. Brenda O'Brien, Becky Young, Joan Harkins, Lori Paull and Roseann Coehlo all blushed. Meanwhile, Sue Marino and Lisa O'Brien, former swim team members, talked with Ann and Mary MacDonald, psychologist, Tricia O'Neill, and Marguerite Ponte about their track team mate Carolyn Caz Mullaney. It seems Carolyn was pilot of the plane Lisa O. flew in on from Virginia. Other guests who flew into Boston arrived in limousines from Logan Airport. One limo which arrived later than the others brought Danny Schioletti, Marcia Buckingham, Fred Ross and Francesca Bettinelli. Luckily, Mary Enos was also a passenger on this limo and she kept them all laughing during the delay. Not long after their arrival, commotion stirred on the dance floor. Kevin O'Brien's partner, Marianne Martino, had fallen, Cagainlj. Fellow dancers Amy Holden and Mark Fralick cleared the crowd while Kathy Doyle called for an ambulance. ln the meantime, nurses Colleen Shea, Marylee Hale, Mary Powers, Mary Hoppe, Mary Jo Leary, Sherrill Dore and Judy Weipert took over. Bobby Sheehan and John Mullaley directed paramedics John Donahue and Brian Smith to Marianne. Michelle Cafasso took over at Mass. General Hospital and put Marianne under the supervision of doctors Billy Diamond and Barry Waldman. The doctors gave Marianne prescriptions that pharmacists Phil Halfond and Damian Marciante were willing to fill. Physical therapists Mary Dunn and Linda Gillis were able to bring Marianne back for the rest of the party. As the evening drew to an end, certified public accountants, David Sullivan, Jim Murphy, and Ken Eames attempted to tally the total cost of the evening. Soon, people began their goodbyes. Howie Orel and Steve Michener offered to continue the party at their places. Peter Glick, Martin Kent and John and James Francis and Rick Keselman said they'd go. We all thanked those who helped to organize the event and Diane for allowing us to meet at the Club Diane. Everyone was happy that their former classmates took the time out of their busy lives to keep in touch with each other. All and all the evening was a great success. by Kendra Taylor and Robin Liftman , . r N Q .- QTf.r',. ....5V ' 6 3 4 he X S? at . get N . i 4 . iw' A , f f f ' .. 1 L' fi: K 1: 4: 'E V ' 1 t- A ,bk N ,J 9.5 ,.' . They didn't know much about this sport but felt they'd like to give it a try. Now they are seniors and the freshman of 4 years ago are gone. What remained were real classy gymnasts who dominat- ed the league and went undefeated at 15- O. But the team will always look back on all those bus rides, on Ann Macdonald making the team as a sophomore, a few trips to MacDonalds or Papa Gino's, An- drea Kershaw's broken arm and still fin- ishing the season, even going undefeated, with that first big win over Franklin. Look- ing back was both happy and sad. Happy because they had come so far but sad because it came to an end. The Hockomock Individual Championship was held at CHS and Canton received a total of 12 metals: vaulting-Maureen Kelly bronze, Denise Arsenault silver, Debbie Poore silver individual all around. Barsg Dawn Cook silver, Mary Ellen Cullinane gold, Beam, Ann MacDonald bronze- Floor, Stella Lagadinos silver-all around Nancy McCarrick received a gold for floor, vaulting, bars and a silver for beam. She broke her CHS record with 32.6 points. The Team also was chosen to compete in the State Tournament for the first time. Congratulations to all the girls and to their coach Kevin Kelleher. 11 Y . This team has shown true class all season as they have in the past, but it is the hard work that has brought the scores up. -Canton Journal .-.,,.,,,. ,V V ,... , 9 . 1 ' 7 1 f fft'wrh ' ' WE OPPONENT 80.7 Taunton 98.5 Franklin 104.65 Sharon 101.2 North Attleboro 97.2 Stoughton 99.6 Foxboro 96.8 Foxboro 101.4 Plymouth 116.4 Stoughton 110.45 Westwood 110.75 Franklin 113.55 King Phillip 105.65 Sharon 102.2 King Phillip 104.8 North Attleboro . .1 -. ,YW l 1 i i 9 l :K ff ff 1 .,, Q THEY 41.6 70.8 73.95 82.0 73.2 55.1 30.9 66.6 90.3 48.4 100.05 100.1 96.9 86.05 89.4 R TRACK IND .i A A . Despite their 1-5-1 record, Canton placed first in the J.V. Franklin Invitational meet and made a fine showing at the Hockomock League Championships. John King placed fifth in the 1000 yard, Rob Shnider fifth in the 45 yard hurdles, Crig Rodman fourth in the 50 yard and junior Brad Smith first in the 600 yard run. At Canton High School Indoor Track is still a boys sport, but an honorable mention should be given to the unofficial girls team. The CHS Boys' Basketball Team is headed for its second winning season in a row, with a record of 10 wins and 8 losses at this time. First year coach Steve Anderson and assistant coach Greg Roose- Iet have stressed a defense oriented game, and their strategy has apparently worked. Senior co-captains Rick Berard and David Sulli- van have led the team of nine seniors and one junior this year through games which have been tension filled, especially in the final seconds. W Lia, Crazy Cop Day was held again this year by the Scholar Dollar Committee to raise money for scholarships for Can- ton High Students. Students participated in a door to door campaign, and various Canton workers and residents were issued warrants. Prominent members of the town served as judges, while Canton High students acted as Crazy Cops. The fines imposed on the criminals were contributed to the Scholar Dollar fund which awards scholarships to stu- dents each year. The success of the day was a result of many people working together for the benefit of the students. 'Q' r. 1 l Come over here and say that ...
