Written somewhere is the statement, God alone knows how many people's destinies depend on ours. In his brief time Paul touched many people's lives, perhaps more than most of us ever could, because he had so much faith in his ideals, so much courage in expressing his beliefs, and so much love for others. Some of us are given the privilege of knowing special people . They pass through our lives like meteors, searing our consciousness and leaving a blaze of light long after they are gone. How long it takes a meteor to cross the sky, though, has little to do with the beauty and wonder we exper- ience in its passage. We are all blessed to have been chosen, privileged that Paul was given to each of us. That he lived among us is proof that God loves us. DEDICATIO MR. HOW RD ORRISON l'lQEllWllErGl'l E A r,':fk' , X .i ,jg 'A In 'tl'-l J ' 1 We the Class of 1978, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Howard Morrison, who has shown his genuine interest in our school and particularly in our class. Some of us have had the good fortune of being in his classes, some of us have known him as a coachg but all of us have known him as a faculty member sincere- ly interested in the students of Canton High. We choose at this time to honor Mr. Morrison as a teacher, as a coach, and especial- ly as a friend. Our senior year has been a very special year in our lives. As our class adviser, Mr. Morrison has assisted us in more ways than we can enumerate. Through his ad- vice and hard work, our Senior Breakfast, Football Luncheon, Senior Banquet, Senior Prom, and Graduation will serve as hap- py, lasting memories of our final year at CHS. We dedicate the record of this past year, ECHO '78, to you Mr. Morrison with deep gratitude and thanks for all you have done to make our senior year a great one. xr XX A X fig .AX :QTXXX xx, XX f X X 1 Q x CXX, X xxx X v . if x , 44, -ff' x I lm 'Mun -I 42 fi 5 ' 2x,,' . Y- Q 1 It is pure pleasure to watch the way these Canton High girls play softball. Combining unusual fielding and throwing skills with consistent pitching and excellent batting, they roughed up King Philip, 10-4, in Hockomock League play yesterday. It boosted the Bulldogs to 10-0 on the season and extending the consecutive win streak to 26-0 in regular league games. These girls just don't make many mistakes . . . They have won three consecutive Large School State Championships, and two consecutive New England Large School Championships. ln addition, they won two league championships as well as the play-offs during the past two years. This year the team has already established itself as the top team in both leagues and should repeat as champions in each league again this year. The following graduating sen- iors have been partly responsible for this out- standing record: .Iay Brockman, Lindley Gif- ford, Richard Kelley, David Melchin, Debbie Moberger, Francis O'Neill, Barbara Paradis, William Scannell, Joshua Simons and Ira Tat- telman. Many of these students have continually ranked among the best performers each year in which they have competed. These perfor- mances were rewarded with suitable awards in the form of trophies. Several of the students earned the right to represent an All State team in post season competiton. The team won the Atlantic Region Mathematics League Competition held in Hartford, Connecticut last year. In participate in state and national indi- vidual competition. The following students placed in the top of all students competing in the State Olympiad examination: Lindley Gif- ford, Richard Kelley, Francis O'Neill, and Joshua Simons, This examination is taken by over 6000 students in Massachusetts. On the national level, Canton High School's Math Team placed ninth in the country on an examination sponsored by the Mathematics Association of Actuaries, and taken by stu- dents in thousands of schools throughout the United States. CHS Math Team is highly respected by teams not only in New England but along the Eastern Seaboard. It is through hard work and great effort on the part of many people which has earned the Canton Math Team the right to be called NUMBER ONE. 58 il! vcr Mrs. Beaton, N. Dorrity, C. Shea K. Donovan, D. Our exchange program emphasizes an intelligent observation of France and an active participation in the life of its people, and most importantly, involvement within a family unit. The program has both an academic and social aim to promote the stu- dent's intellectual growth and his ca- pacity for cross-cultured understand- ing. In the fall, the members attended a Spanish film. At Christmas, native food was prepared by the students for a fiesta. This spring, all made the annual visit to a Spanish restaurant. The Canton High French Club enlivens the study of French for the students, as it provides opportunities for many enjoyable features of language study. We have had the chance to enrich our bodies by partaking in a fest of crepes and the chance to enrich our minds by seeing the French play, L,Etranger by Camus. We have also had the chance to foster relations by being a co-sponsor with the Spanish and German Clubs of a Holiday Fete, replete with food and music representative of the three countries. saga!! An eager Echo Staff, however, had already been long at work in plan- ning and preparing this yearbook. As the school year began, pages began to take form. With our early excitement still strong, the color, faculty, fall sports, and senior sections all fell into line. Then, without warning, the storm hit. Like ev- erything else in Canton, ECHO '78 was buried under ten-foot drifts. Our staff met the formidable challenge ofudigging out by working long hours, both in school and out. Finally, five deadlines and two hundred sixty pages later, the yearbook went to press. These past four years which we have spent at CHS, will always be special. Despite the many steep sections which we encountered in the frantic climb from the lowly depths of freshmen to the diz- zying heights of seniors, we are left with many great memories to cherish. It is with pleasure that the Staff of ECHO '78 has recorded our final year at Canton Lligh School. , dwcard Retain paperwmh onthe TERS THEINCH - The Editors STAFF David Marini, Sue McManus, Jenny Mel ton, Julie Perez, Mary Murphy, Linda Mit- Jokhiible T PAGE N0.lJ.l.
