In a setting of ele- gance, those attending enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner and then danced away the evening to the music of Big D and the Marsells. The orchestra had difficulty in selecting from the beautiful guests, a queen and her court. After much deliberation, the King and Queen for the evening were Michael Tyrrell and Elaine Vinios. In the court were Mary Ann Mellon and David Hamrock, Mara Pizzi and David Sass, Ma- rie Bottary and Frank Rotella, and Ann Marie I-Iopfgarten and Bryan Campbell. It was a fun ni ht and will be lon 8 8 K remembered by all. l 1 v .. . lx , -L - 4' 1 ,- g ,da C u,?Q.,'.' 'NX K Y I I X 'ix I' 1 P ' A S ' 'Ag ' , ' f 1 :' 4 KA V , M... I I' 0 ' , 52 Q .. Warrants were served on prominent citizens, teachers, and business people. Members of the school committee, selectmen, and the students of Canton High all acted as the officers of the law. The accused were taken to the court in a 1914 paddy wagon. After sentencing the accused were jailed. At the same time, eighty-three other students were participating in a door to door campaign, for donations for scholarships. Over 54,000 was raised that day and given out to worthy recipients. The team has won three out of four league titles during the past two years, two consecutive State Championships, and the New England Championship. This year the team has a comfortable lead in both leagues and should win both league titles. The following graduating seniors have been instrumental in helping to com- pile the outstanding record: Edward Branagan, Lynn Clark, Robert Crowe, Kathy d'Entremont, Jerome DiCos- tanzo, Mike Francis, David Ryley, and Walter Storkus. In addition, Edward Branagan and Walter Storkus were se- lected to participate in a mathematics institute, held at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, during June of 1976 for the top twenty-five stu- dents in the country. The reason for the institute was to help prepare these top students for the International In- terscholastic Competition held each year in Europe. We are hoping they both will succeed in making the United States Competing Team this year. The Math Team is looking forward to defending its State and New England Championships. The possibility of a re- peat performance is a likelihood based on the team performance to date. Several of the students have won indi- vidual awards each of the three years they have competed for Canton High School. These awards are given to the highest scoring individuals in the league. The Canton High School Math Team has become the best known team in Mathematics competition. Whenever involved in any team competition, Can- ton High School is considered to be NUMBER ONE. 52 Sr LES ECHANGES SCOLAIRES 4 Each year amid great excitement, a group of 15 students l embark on an adventure to France. They are our ambas- sadors, as in their own way. they help to further a greater understanding between France and the United States. Our students have the rare opportunity to rethink many preconceived concepts and are exposed to a variety of cultural activities not only in Paris but also in La Baule. Suddenly, all that has been studied about France is a reality! La tour Eiffel, L'Arc de Triomphe. Notre Dame, family and school life in Brittany . . . and ofcourse les patisseriesl 1 A 4 Row 1: L. Participants enjoyed the cultural and educational challenges the exchange offered. The exposure to the English people and their customs was an en- riching experience. ln addition, the stay included such highlights as visits to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Gardens, Shake- speare Country, and the countryside of Lancashire. A particular focus of the program is the pro- cess by which the public's will progresses through the legisla- tive process. Despite its frenetic pace, the schedule does provide time to simply sightsee. But clearly, the program's objective is to probe behind Washing- ton's stony facades. The Close-Up staff explains and directs students to opportu- nities for citizen input into the democratic process. The per- sonalities who make news, pass laws, and both tangle and un- tangle our bureaucratic red tape, meet to discuss their jobs with Close-Up participants. This is obviously a time for live- ly discussion. . E u f . ', , w w! I . As we look back on our years at Canton High, we see a class maturing academically, physically, and socially. There were days of hard work, there were days of intenseness, there were days of victory, and there were days of happiness. Through all our days of work and fun there have evolved friendships and treasured memories we will always enjoy. With reservation we say goodbye to this portion of our lives. For many college awaits, for others, the challenges of the business world. Our years at Canton High have prepared us for those challengesland have helped to mold a class of over three hundred students into eager, promising young adults. The yearbook staff has attempted to capture the life we have enjoyed as seniors. Our objective was to present to the Class of 1977 a yearbook that would serve them as a lasting remembrance of their year. The Echo '77 staff hopes you will enjoy the yearbook they have prepared for you, and they wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors. THE ECHO STAFF nr' ' ' 573515532 Qi -if , 'if '- :T', viik...-- T ,, , , The Editors of ECHO '77, dedicate this page to a woman whose talent, concern, and patience have helped produce this book. She willingly gave of herself to make this publication a reality. The pictures you see on this page before you display a small portion of the frustration our faculty advisor was forced to conquer. Fortunately, with frustration comes pride and pleasure. Thank you, Mrs. Devine. Your effort will not be forgotten. -The Editors- S. nfi 5 Q. ,..-4' ,., B. u df ff Row 1: J. Kraemer, A. McPherson, L.
