Kelleher Senior Editor The 1967 ECHO is the product of many people, and many talents working together. We would like to thank all the people who helped us, and especially our advisor, Mr. Morrison. We hope that the 1967 ECHO brings enjoyment to you now, and in the years to come. FQREWORD What is a yearbook? A yearbook should set the reader's imagination to work. It should recall some of the work, happiness, excitement, and feelings of our four years at Canton High. Pictures recall different things to each person, and as we leave Canton High School for work and college the pictures in the yearbook should recall the friends and places which were once so familiar. With this in mind we have created the 1967 Echo, to help recall your memories of the Spirit of '67.,' 1 - r i ' l r Ls 'M tiatafa d ! l gp i I t - I y 'Sh , ffsv R 4' K. Rarely does one meet a man with the enthusiasm, humor, and understanding of Mr. Callanan. As a teacher he has inspired in us a real desire to learn. His dedi- cation to us, whether as an advisor of the Student Council, as a coach, as a teacher, or as a friend, has created in us a feeling of respect and friendship for him which will be long remembered. Because of his sin- cere interest in us, we dedicate our yearbook with grati- tude to Paul Callanan. Q ,fer Y. -S 3 59' , by me . -f ' 'f 7 s. AND NDMINISTRATION C 'N MR. WILLIAM H. Everyone was afraid to take too many eggs for fear that the whole table would gang up on them. And more than one slice of ham and watch out . But despite the food fights. the orange juice orgies. the ham hounds. the eager egg eaters, and the donut divers. the break- fast was a stimulating stir before our first home game. lf anyone didn't memorize all the cheers after how many times that they were shouted, then they must have been too busy eating or watching the teachers who also joined in the cheers. With red hands, full stomachs, and lofty minds, the Senior Class of 67 marched to the field. 87 Q' 2 I ff ,, 1 v 0, X X Y 1 1 V . w x ' A 8-0 i ' WIA 'V U5 4549211 N ' f .pg E wh GIRL ' FQCTBALL Top row-S. SENIOR GIRLS I O0TIIfXI,I, The shirts were a little big and they had funny embarrassing tails. but we had a ball. It must have been 109, and the ground was like 1-onerete. This was the setting for the Senior Girls Football Game. These girls really deserve a lot of credit for participating. They had no helmets or padding. and the game was tacklel The team members were just as rough as the professionals. and a couple of the kids were a little shaken up. Barb Harris was in such great physi- cal shape that she ached for three weeks afterwards. Linda Maeljhail quarterbaeked the White Team, and Dorsey Kelleher the Green Team. Dorsey scored the only touchdown, and was shaken up a few times during the game. 89 9 SABRI A FAIR 'LSabrina Fair. listen where thou art sitting under the glassy cool. translucent wave . . .ii Sabrina Fairchild grew up on the Larrabee's estate on Long lsland. where her father worked as the chauf- feur. She then spent five years in Paris and returned home a sophisticated and well-mannered young lady. She 1'eturned home to find out whether or not she really loved the l,arrabee's youngest son David. If she found out that she didn't love David' she was going to return to Paris and marry a very rich Frenchman. Nlon- sieur Paul lTArgenson. Davidis older brother Linus tried to discourage Sa- brina from wanting to marry David, that she should marry her rich Frenchman. but in trying to persuade her. Linus falls in love with her. David has also fallen completely in love with Sabrina and told his mother, Maude Larrabee that he wants to marry Sabrina. lVlaude is against the marriage. but promises to discuss the matter with Mr. l.arrabee. Mr. Larrabee however forbid the marriage in no uncertain terms. it wasn't right for your chauffer's daughter to marry your son. Wliile Maude was consulting Sabrinais father, Fair- child, Sabrina happened to walk in and discovered to her horror that they were discussing her marriage which she knew nothing about. At the same time Sabrinais rich Frenchman from Paris arrived as a surprise to take her home. At this point Sabrina discovered she loved Linus. Linus finally musters up enough courage to ask Sa- brina to save him from a fate worse than death to be domesticated. Its reports were not always accurate, the letters to the editors were not always original, the student body often . disagreed with some factual accounts, and feelings often ran high against the newspaper. Besides learning the basis of reporting, writing, and layout, we listened to speakers from other newspapers, such as the '6Patriot Ledger . Also, after an issue of our own paper, we would pick it apart in Journalism Class, discussing its good and bad points. Mr. Schneiders was the instructor, and often mixed colorful stories about David C. and possible libel suits with the usual Journalism course. I47 ea? 'Sf' J' - Q 'SJ '-IS 1. Keeps Bulldogs Gro BOSTON - Ever since Tom At len Gavigan could handle a hockey C t ' stick, swing a baseball bat or yma 5:3 0: run with a football, be's been a ' fa fa 5 ,, Cn success, i Russ hid His touch for success and a checks winning attitude paid off for the clock. Bulldogs hockey team Saturday afternoon, as Canton won an 3-2 overtime decision over Boston Technical in a second round preliminary game in the State Schoolboy hockey tournament at the Boston Arena. lt wasn't an easy win for Canton, however as it was behind 1-0 going into the third Beriod but Steve Mathews notted the score for Canton at 3.33 of the period and Gavigan gave it the lead at 5:42 on a partial breakaway. A Technical goal by Mike Cederchuck put the game into overtime but Gavigan came up with the winning goal at 1:20. This isn't the first time Tom has won a big game for us. ' said an elated Canton Coach Russ Kidd. Earlier in the year 2 he got the only goal in a 1-0 win a fine game, rebuffing Canton consistently. After we'd begun skating like we should, explained Kidd, we began getting some shots on him but he was excellent along with that boy, Shanley 1VinJ who played the entire game. Flaherty didn't have a mon- opoly on good goaltending in the game, however. as Bulldog goalie Tom St. Jean stopped four clean breakaways by Tech. The breakaways were the result of Tech expectations - Canton defensive lapses. The first goal scored on St. Jean at 6:39 of the first period was a deflected screened shot by Bill Hanson. Jean appeared to have seen the shot in flight but, at the last imtant, it deflected off a Canton player and by St. Jean. Canton came on like steam- rollers in the third period, always on the offense. with play being mostly in the Tech zone. Mathews made all the expend- pay off at 3:33 when a nifty wrist shot into ing he I really thought we were snake bit in the game, said Kidd who was relieved to get the game over with. Nothing seemed to click for us although the bovs played a fine game. And when they began complet- ing their plays and shooting. that F'ah-riy would make a great stop. But we just had'to keep pounding away until we scored. i Now the Bulldogs, after wins' over liynnfield t3-lt and Techy must face the number one seeded team in the Tourney.
