CANTON PUBLIC LIBRARY CANTON MASSACHUSETT9 Table of Contents Dedication 4 Administration 7 Faculty I3 Seniors 25 Underclassmen 87 Activities lOl Foreword The name Canton was chosen by Eliiah Dunbar, a promi- nent citizen of that town, who selected it, as he explained, for the reason that the Chinese city was almost directly anti- podal to our Massachusetts Canton. The seal ot Canton, adopted in l88l, contains two points of local significance, for having been once a part of Dorchester, it has for its crest the triple towered castle of Dorchester, England, and also a replica of the coat-of-arms engraved on the tombstone of Governor William Stoughton, whose last name was used by the town until l 797, when Canton was chosen. It is the purpose of the division pages in this yearbook to recreate the atmosphere of our town, Canton. With this in mind, we present to you the 1964 ECHO.
