Cbippy , b'-'WN -G' gag' Sitting in my seat on Graduation night, the only thoughts in my mind are of the years I have spent at Canton High and the many happy events I am leaving behind. While the guest speaker is discussing our future, I am content to meditate on the pleasant memories of the past. It doesnt seem four years ago that a group of shy, frightened youths entered Canton High as freshmen. Although we were the only class going to school during the afternoon session, we still had trouble finding our classrooms. Under the watchful guidance of our homeroom teachers, Mrs. Cole, Miss Kelley, Mr. Bowyer, and Mr. MacDonald, we managed to start our freshman year off on the right foot. In November of '55, feeling very democratic, we elected Edwin Banks, David Thomas, jane Hannon, and Arthur Rad- den, as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. On May 8, we, the freshman class, made our debut into the social world by holding our first class dance, the Freshman Frolic. Freddie Darling and Kathy Donaghey were crowned king and queen. The warm weather added to the evening, providing a pleasant time for all. After a brief summer vacation, we trudged down the long, tar driveway to the same big, brick building standing be- fore us. The only difference was that this year we were Sophomores and were now promoted to the morning session. Assigned to homerooms cafeteria, 2, 14, and 16 with Mrs. Miller, Miss Roach, Mr. Headstrom, and Mr. Dowson as our ad- visors, we received our programs for the coming year. The election of class officers was held in September. We chose as President, Arthur Radden, Vice President, john Dowd, later succeeded by jane Hannon, Secretary, Rosemary Kelliher, and Treasurer, Isabel Galvin. The highlight of our social events was the Sophomore Hop, March 15, held at the high school gym. All committees cooperated to make it a successful evening. joseph DeFelice and Barbara Feeley were crowned king and queen by our class president, Arthur Radden. Finally in September of 1957 we reached our goal-being upperclassmen. In our junior homerooms 10, 11, 12, and 1-4, we found four familiar faces. They were Mr. MacDonald, Miss Fiore, Mr. Haines, and Mrs. Greene. What a relief to be able to walk through the corridors knowing that we were the second oldest class in the school. On October 2, 1957, election time rolled around once more. The following received class offices: Sue Pariseau, Presi- dent, Thomas Connors, Vice President, David Thomas, Treasurer, and Lorretta Mennino, Secretary. An oriental theme, Shangri-la was chosen for the annual junior Prom held at the high school gym. Music played by Rock Sands Orchestra made the evening enjoyable. Charles Toomey and Gay Gibbons were crowned king and queen. 63444 Time: May You Always Now the time has come when we bid Fond Farewell to Canton High We will always live with memories And we'll hold our heads up high May we always be a tribute May we never let you down A's we travel life's long journey May success for us be found. At the graduation exercises of the class of 1958, many of our classmates were awarded pro merito pins. They worked very hard to attain this BH average and certainly deserved to receive these pins. On September 6, 1958, we returned to school as Seniors full of pep, vim, and vigor, determined to establish a preced- ent for all future seniors to follow. All were happy to learn that our yearbook, The Echo, was being edited by two of our most capable classmates, Elizabeth Sheehan and William Duffy. It was bound to be a certain success. The election of class officers for the senior year took place on October 24. Those elected were President, Arthur Rad- deng Vice President, Paul Callahan, Treasurer, David Thomas, and Secretary, Amelia Citrano. More senior boys than ever anticipated reported for football practice, This, of course, lifted the team's spirit. Coach Moriello, with the two hard-working Co-Captains, Anthony Uliano, and Paul Callahan, enjoyed a successful year. We were certainly proud of their spirit and effort. Senior Cheerleaders who joined the squad during the football season were Elizabeth Sheehan and Amelia Citrano. The other senior cheerleaders included: Diane Abramowitz and Rosemary Kelliher, Co-Captains, and Elizabeth Bowmar and Virginia Flanagan. Early in january the date for the Senior Ball was made known. On February 24 at the Blue Hill Country Club, a large number of the students enjoyed a delicious ham or chicken dinner. Dancing was provided by Don Ahern which added to the merriment of the occasion. At the same time as we were preparing for the Senior Ball, we were also preparing for another class event. This was our Senior Play, Seven Sirlew. Our play was a big success because of the efforts of Mr. MacDonald, our efficient director. Senior week was next on the schedule. What a time! The beach parties and the practices for graduation strengthened our bond of friendship. Those were seven days which will remain in our memories for some time. As I walk up the long line to receive my diploma I can read my thoughts in the faces of my classmates. It is not until now, when we are graduating, that we can fully appreciate what our principal Mr. Donovan, and our Assistant Principal Mrs. Dana, and all our other teachers have done for us. Our youthful years are behind us and our grown-up years are ahead. This diploma we are receiving is our last reminder of the years we spent at Canton High, and we aim to cherish it forever. VIRGINIA FLANAGAN C lan H irtorifuz May we never be forgotten May no tears be spilled May old acquaintance be remembered And our cup of kindness filled And though the years have passed so quickly We will never let them die Thanks to all at C.H.S. The 1958 football season had a more promising start than 1957, as Canton first topped Rockland, then Abington. 5 Wfhen the Green and White fell to Taunton the next Saturday, they lost not only a game, but a valuable lineman, Steve I Burnham, as well. Canton climbed back into the win column, however by upsetting Don Bosco in a pouring rain. After suffering several setbacks, Canton now faced its arch-rival, Stoughton. The annual turkey-day classic took place on Novem- ber 27. one of the toldest days of the year. The Orange and Black outweighed Canton considerably, nevertheless, Can- i ton held them to only six points in the first half. Eventually,Stoughton's massive ground attack overpowered their adver- 1 sary. , Although continually hampered by injuries to key players, the team produced a favorable record of three wins and five ' losses The season was highlighted by the magnificent backfield running of Paul Callahan and Dave Thomas, and fine ' pissiiig of Paul P..sf.ltiai'osa. jimmy Sullivan awed the spectators with some brilliant pass receiving. Archie Radden, Tony lilltlflfg Iiddie lierardi, and Al lfields were iron men on defense. f,f,ngratuI.itions to the toathes for producing a group of spirited boys of which Canton High could be proud. , ffialvx .Q Qf ., 3 Q' a gi... wa . fe, Assistant Coach, David Hainesg Co-Captains, Paul Callahan, Tony Ulianog Coach, Mario Moriello. - .
