Foreword Each memher of the class of l957 has walked a pathway since he entered Canton High School. For us now the last mile of our trail is finished. We come to the parting. the fork in the road, where soon we will he scattered lay the winds of destiny. Ahead. we cannot see around the curves and lvends of fate. ln time, youth will he so distant that we will not he alile to visualize it. This year- hook can he used as a form of binoculars to bring hack memories of people and activities that would otherwise he forgotten far liehind. Once again we will rememlier the friends. sports. clubs. parties, laughs. and worries that seemed so important. We will turn toward the future with a true apprecia- tion of the experiences shared and the knowledge gained during the happy trip through our teen- age years. . Stars of the Night Slow Walk King and Queen of Hearts Dancmg xn the Dark Tea for Two 1-'lg Class History The music has started. and I can feel myself shaking as we slowly, but surely move down the walk to the beat of our graduation march. Yes, itis now my graduation night with all the thrills. joys. and butterflies that go along with it. Oh! it seem as though we'll never reach our seats: could they play any slower? It doesnit seem possible that in just a short while our h'igh school days will just be memories. But they will be the most wonderful ones that anyone would want to recall. Why I can remember as if it were yesterday. entering into our freshman year as proud as we could be. It was nothing but a state of confusion for the first few weeks. Besides forgetting locker combinations and not being able to find our homerooms Iwith the help of the upperclassmenl I would say that we spent most of our time in the office trying to get help. Finally we became accustomed to the regulations. In Xovember of '53. we started things underway by electing Dick Seavey, Bob Berardi, Pete DeLellis, and Gerry Sousa, as our President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Will there ever be a night like May 9, our Freshman Frolic? This was the first big dance for most of us. Here we showed off our dancing skill. Well, I guess it wasn't exactly skill. I guess it wasnit exactly dancing either. The gym was gayly decorated with crepe paper and balloons and the music was provided by Wally Walters. June creeped up on us before we knew it and we ended our memorable year with a trip to Nantasket. Here we were again walking down the long tar driveway to the big brick building which lay before us. Yes, it was September again. We entered with anxiety, thinking that we were not the lowest and newest class in the school now. As our officers, we elected President, John Gibbs: Vice President, Vivian DiSalvo: Secretary, Elaine Bertelletti, and Treasurer, George Makris. March 18 was the night of our Sophomore Hop. The gym looked beautiful, and the music was provided by Wally Walters. We ended our Sophomore year with our annual trip to Nantasket. We had a good time. There we were again, sitting in our honierooms 10, 11, and 15, proud of our accomplishment, for we were now upperclassmen. This was to be our most exciting year, because we had so many things to do. On October 25, 1955, we elected Chucky Tardanico, President, Kevin Carroll, Vice Presidentg Maureen Sullivan, Secretary, and Gerry Sousa, Treasurer, as our able and dependable class officers. Rings were our only thought at this time, so we chose our ring committee. They were Eleanor Bullock, Maureen Sullivan, Diane Kunkel, Gail Gabrielle, Eddie White, Bobby Bantick, Richard Seavey, and Irving Goldberg. They chose red starfires as our class rings. Because of many complications, our rings did not arrive until late. They were not exactly what we had ordered but we were still pleased to get them. We held a class meeting on March 29, in preparation for the Junior Prom. We organized the various committees, decorations, refreshment, ticket, and orchestra. At last! The big night was here. The one night that we all had awaited for so long. It was May 25, the night of our Junior Prom. The gym was beautifully decorated with Paris as our subject and background. Chucky Tardanico crowned Tony Baronas and Jerry Nugent as King and Queen. Most of us ended up at Hugois after the prom. We had a room reserved just for us where we had a wonderful time. Bonnie Kelleher, Ann Trayers, and Arlene Wissenbach were chosen as our peppy cheerleaders. Merle Swardlick was elected captain. It was so close to our Senior year now, we all had such a good feeling. It was a feeling of importance that I suppose only a senior could have. The 22nd Of .lllfle 38 ' came, and we ended our Junior year with the class trip. We left the school at noon very happy and full of pep. We had a wonderful time at Nantasket and at Paragon Park. At 9:30 we returned, tired. but still happy. On September 6. we entered our last year at Canton High. We really felt important. For our class officers we chose. President. Kevin Carrollg Vice President, Pauline Toomeyg Secretary, Betsy Isbellg Treasurer, lrving Goldberg. We found that we had so much to do to get our yearbook ready that we were glad to learn that our yearbook was being edited by capable Helen Abernathy and lrene Hughes. Football season was once again here and we had quite a few of our senior boys participating. Bob Berardi and Dick Seavey were elected captains of the team. While Louis Martin. Billy Walsh, Jimmy and Gerry Heggie, Johnny Flood. Bruce Gallagher, Vinnie Gallivan. Kevin Carroll, Earl d'Entremont. Eddie Tatum. Gerry Sousa, Eddie Calvin and John Brooks were our first team. Although we lost our Thanksgiving Day game with Stoughton. we were very proud of our boys. They played a wonderful game. We were also proud, because it was the first time in three years that we had scored against Stoughton. The final score was 14-6. Time flew by after our Christmas vacation. On February 19 our Senior Dance was held at the beautiful Blue Hill Country Club. Our King and Queen were Robert Kosh and Janice Fuller. Everyone enjoyed himself. Our class play was held on March 27. It was a huge success. lt was under the direction of Mr. MacDonald and the name of it was HPROFESSOR HOW COULD YOU with Helen Abernathy and Eddie White as the leads. Then came May 29, our last school day. We all carrie dressed up for this occasion. June lst through the 7th was our Senior Week. We had a wonderful class day and a delicious banquet. We have some wonderful memories to treasure and we thank all the faculty members who have given us knowledge and help. These qualities were displayed throughout the season even though the rewards were slim. Day after day the boys worked hard in order to be able to worthily represent Canton High School each Saturday afternoon. From the first game to the last they steadily improved although they were continually faced with ever growing obstacles. In the North Attleboro-Canton game early in the fall we lost a fine player in Paul Podgurski, who was injured and unable to play for the rest of the season. He had been extremely promising during the previous year. Despite this handicap and even though several of our opponents were in a higher classification, our team fired the enthusiasm of the students who felt that all of our games were moral victories.
