MRS. ABBY JANE (ELLIS) SNOW 1869-1870 Abbv Jane (Ellis) Snow, daughter of William and Jane (Endicott) Ellis, was born in Canton, April i, 184L She received her earlier education in the public schools of Canton, and graduated from the Bridgewater Normal School in 1858. She taught school in Norton, Norwood and Canton. In 1865 she married George Henry Snow. In 1869 she accepted the position of assistant teacher in the High School, where she remained for two terms, afterwards teaching Intermediate School in District No. 7. Mrs. Snow died in Canton, Mass., November 9, i S82. At the time of her death she was libra- rian of the Canton Public Library. 17

MARY (PRESCOTTj SMITH 1872-1873 and 1876-1881 Mary L. Prescott was born March 24th, 1848, in the town of Ran- dolph, Mass. She was educated in the public schools of that town, and at the age of seventeen entered the Bridgewater Normal School, graduating January 28th, 1868. The following spring she began teaching in an Inter- mediate School in the town of Holbrook, remaining through the spring and fall terms. In the spring of 1869 she took a school in the Primary grade in Randolph, being transferred after a short period to one of the Intermediate Schools in the Prescott school building. In 1871 she returned to Bridgewater to fit for higher grades of school work, remaining there one year. In September, 1872, she began teaching in the Canton High School as assistant. The second year opened favorably, but sudden sickness in the family called Miss Prescott home. Her position was left open for the space of one year, a substitute, Miss Susie Felton, having been provided. The sickness continuing, she was not able to return, and the vacancy was filled l)y Miss Chace. Miss Chace resigning in 1876, Miss Prescott again took the position of assistant in the school, remaining for five years, being associated during this time with C. H. Berry and F. L. Owen as principals. She resigned in June, 1881. In July, 1882, she married Adoniram Smith of Randolph, Mass., where she now resides. 19
