EDWARD L. (DANA; UNDERWOOD, A. B. 1891-1893 Born July 23, 1858, in Charlestown, Mass. (now Boston). After leaving the Grammar School and Boston Latin School, he entered Harvard College, graduating in 1882. Began teacliing in 1884 at Rockport, Mass. From 1885-90 at Powers Institute, Bernardston, Mass.; 1 890-92, Canton High School; since 1892 at John P. llopkinson ' s Private Classical School, Chestnut street, l oston, Mass. Resides in Canton.

WILLIAM C. HOBBS, A. B. 1889-1890 The subject of this sketch was born in Wilton, Maine, July 11, 1859, began teachinp his first school November 29, 1875, in North Jay, Maine. He fitted for Bates College in Wilton Academy and graduated in the class of iSSi. Afterwards he pursued a year of post-graduate study at Harvard University, in 1884 and I SS5. He was principal of Litchfield Academy, Maine, in 1S82, and in the fall of 1882 began teaching in Maplewood Institute, Pittsfield. Mass , remaining there two years. He then taught in Lewiston Higli School, Maine, during the fall term of 18S5, and beginning in Januarv, 1886, was principal of Attleboro High School tliree ears and two terms, and thereupon was prin- cipal of Canton High School one year, beginning September, 1889. He entered the classical department of the Providence High School in the fall of 1890, and after a half-year ' s service, was promoted to the position of first assistant in the English and scientific department of the same school. Was in Providence two years. In June, 1:892, he accepted appointment of superintendent of schools in North Attleboro, where he now is. 14

EL-MER H. BRACKETT, A. B. 1892-1897 Elmer H. Brackett was born at Acton, Maine, i860. Prepared for college at the Rochester, N. H., High School; then entered Bates College, graduating in the class of 1885. Was principal of the High School at Lisbon, Maine, 1885- 1887; at Groveland and Merrimac, 1 887-1 890; at Walpole, 1 890-1 892; at Canton, 1892 to the present time. r6
