No doubt you have seen plays that have fairly made your flesh creep but heres one that tops them all, For every thrill, there is a hearty laugh, lxfliss Priscilla Carter is peeved because her two neices have fallen love with two silly young nincompoopsf' She purchases the grim old Hobgood house in the foothills of the Gzarks and here in the seclusion of the mountains she plans a safe retreat where the girls shall not see their lovers for at least six months on penalty of being disinherited. And what a mess they get into A-ghosts and ghostly doings everywhere, Just as luck would have it, they arrive on the very night that old Bluebeard Bronson, who once committed a murder in the house, is supposed to revisit the scene of his crime, There are some strange happenings on this night, especially when the two boys arrive and dress up like ghosts in order to scare Aunt Priscilla back to town, The boys, after scaring the daylights out of the three servants, are discovered by Aunt Priscilla. Just as she is about to condemn the girls to wait for their money for four years, a number of ghostly manifestations appear and the boys disappear, Bluebeard Bron- son, the murderous lunatic, appears and has Aunt Priss convinced they should leave when the boys rush in to tell them that they are being fooled and that there is a kidnapped girl involved and Bluebeard is only acting crazy. Not until this is proved does Aunt Priscilla relent and agree that Jack and Frank marry her two neices. The characters include: The crochety Miss Priscilla Carter, Peggy Howard: the deter- mined neices, Marion, lvlartha Roberts, and Jill, Elaine Jackson, the two fun loving boys, Frank l-larlow, John English, and Jack Loring, Charles Clark, Susan Parkins, Elizabeth Harr, the English 'ouskeeperg l-lenry Coober, Elmer Brazee, and Delilha Worts, Nancy Coodsell, the two colored servants, old Darius Krupp, the ancient caretaker of the l-lobgoblin House, Cer- ald Harkless, Bluebeard Bronson, the escaped maniac, Jack Andrews, Bill Vxfilkins, his keeper, Glenn Christy, and thenf - The l-leadless Phantom who is later found to be Patricia, a missing Chicago heiress, Joanne Hogan. Shirley Terpening Friends of Joey-Ann Raster, Barbara Denham, Gladys Leek, Richard Kennedy, Bill Rusnak, Bob Harland The closet in the Brewster living room plays a leading role in this hilarious play about young people and the innocent adults they involve. Besides being a catch-all for the family, the closet serves as a hiding place for a couple of characters who might reveal what the boys are up to. lt all starts when Joey Brewster lDavid Brownl decides his friend, Pee Wee iFreddy Downeyl needs more experience with the female sex. ln order to gain this experience, Joey has Pee Wee correspond with Dear Alone ln The World. When Dear Alone ln The World requests a picture, Pee Wee promptly sends her one of Dad Brewster CJon Gultonl. Meanwhile, Dad and his daughter, Nancy lBetty DeFordl, plan a surprise party for mother iJoan l-linklel to celebrate Mom's and Dad's wedding anniversary. Mom Brewster is led to believe there is another woman in her husbands life, Dear Alone ln The World arrives in the person of Bonnie Bates iVirginia Owingsl, daughter of one of clad's old sweethearts. The boys, frightened by the possibilities of trouble, promptly hide her in the closet. Dr. Phillip Gayworth iBurton Shepardl, who is engaged to Nancy, is having some difficulty with a problem patient and is trying to convince Nancy not to announce their engagement till later. l-le explains that his grandmother lAngeline Galogerisl has a bad spell and he needs to go to her home. This is his excuse to go to stay with the patient. But Grandmother, having ideas of her own and desiring to meet Nancy, arrives and is shoved into the closet with Dear Alone ln The World. Joey, not knowing of his father's plan to have an anniversary party, invites his girl friend, Minerva Mitchell iCarol Masonl, and a few of his friends over to dance. ln the midst of the confusion a policeman lLarry Jenkinsl arrives with Elsa Bates iBarbara Williamsl seeking her daughter. By the time everything is settled, Mr. Brewster is a nervous wreck and to complete this Mrs. Brewster calmly explains that their anniversary isn't till next month. The production played to a packed house both nights which was not to be wondered at as Miss Coty had done a bang up job of choosing and directing the cast. Shortly after, the organization decorated a Homecoming float, and plans were also discussed for a Roman banquet which may be held in the spring. The Latin Club, which has always been an energetic group of which Cl-l.S. has rightly been proud, is a branch of the Junior Classical Society of Illinois. Students are required to have one year of Latin to join, and therefore, the club is usually a large and active group. PACE SEVENTY-THREE pcuzisk Seated, left: Beverlee Anderson, J. l-logan, B.
