4. me G W Senior-Junior Party ORN stalks, hiding leering pumpkin faces, strings of golden corn and boughs of red and yellow leaves, made the old High School gym on this Hallowe'en eve look like an autumn corn field at dusk just before the elves and witches come out of their dusky caverns. The lower halls of the building, black as night, received the variegated crowd of merry-makers. Here they were led by ropes over springs which creaked dismally and made walking seem dangerous, past ghostly figures that groaned dismally and pointed out the way with long, bony fingers. But finally the mecca was reached. Laughter and noise betrayed the gym when the maskers gath- ered under the dim lights of the gym. Such a motley crowd was never seen. Games were played and then all were escorted into the Assembly Hall where the Senior boys made their debut in a burlesque on Uncle Tom's Cabinf' If anyone had a grouch when he went down, he was sure to have lost it before he left the As- sembly. The boys showed a good deal of talent, and the audience was enthusiastic. Between acts the famous Senior quartette gave some rollicking tunes and were en- cored again and again. After the show the revellers went back to tl1e gym where sweet cider, doughnuts, pop corn balls and apples were served. Then all cheered for the faculty. Never during its existence had the old gym welcomed such a jolly gathering, never will those who were there forget the .happy Hallowe'en party given by the class of '17 in honor of their successors, the class of '18. . fa :'v?. ' Q Senior Wiener Roast N Friday, September 15, we Seniors swarmed on to the 5 o'clock interurban and rode to Goodellis crossing, from whence we journeyed to the woods ad- joining Cal I,ingenfelter's farm home. The crisp, cool air gave us hearty ap- petites and soon a huge fire was built, over which we held the delicious, sizzling wieners and browned the fluffy white marshmallows. After the big feed, we still were able to sing, so we gathered around the dying embers and sang until the woods echoed and rc-echoed with the music. Suddenly, out of the black and dismal forest came a tribe of attacking warriors. The Juniors had come to pay an informal visit. In the midst of the death grapple that followed, a tall figure couldbe seen going around, taking the scrappers apart and finally establishing peace among the com- batants. The Juniors say you saved our lives, Mr. Heller, but by the faces of the Juniors next day, we should think they would be more grateful. After rousing cheers for both classes, old C. H. S. and Mr. Heller, we returned to our homes in Canton. Tuwzly
